Unique AR15 Build??

I have a hair to build another upper.. but cant decide on a caliber... i have a 6.5 grendel...

I DO NOT want a .223...

Not sure what is worth my wild to build on an AR platform over a bolt gun...

Only thing i can think of would be a 300BLk... even then itd be quieter in a bolt gun tho..

6mm woa, neck down a 6.8spc case and it's good to go. Fill with benchmark and push 64gr vmax at 3400fps

Talk to Robert Whitley, 6mmAR.com. This guy has been there and done that
He will provide you with full service. Brass Dies barrels reloading data ect...

.20 Practical - An absolutely brilliant varminter/predator on the AR platform. I have a bolt action and an AR upper in the Practical. The AR upper is my go-to predator solution. Superb accuracy and control and terminal performance is spectacular. Economical, too.

I have two ARs, a 556 and a 6.5 Grendel. If I were to build another I would probably look at one of the 6mm options. There is also a little part of me that would like to put together a 6.8 SPC so I can compare it first hand to the Grendel.

i have been into 300 BLK since inception. Neat cartridge, you can push it in a bolt to get bullets performing at longer ranges. In an AR, restricted to mag length, supers have a limit - but it will do better than some the tacticool guys on youtube say it will. As with anything, handloading brings out the best in any cartridge. Suppressed sub sonics are awesome and hit a ton, close range unless you are prepared for major hold overs/unders. I built a 6x45 last year and liked it so much I built a custom bolt on a M7 AAC Rem. action. 1 in 8 twist is the way to go IMO and for yote's and Ghogs the 87 gr Vmax is murder.

I shoot a lot of 240gr cast bullets (NOE Mold), both plain base and GC out of a 700 in 300 BLK. It's like lobbing artillery rounds, and with a suppressor there is very, very little noise.

Kind of late to build something "unique"; like about 10yrs too late.

Might think about a 6mm PPC but they've all been done. Got the Grendel already...
I do not get the attraction to the .300blk or the whisper variants.

You got an AR in standard chambering? Well buddy, unless you are loading it with 77/75gr match bullets, you don't know what you got! Then you got 80gr and 90gr match to single load. Try shooting Service Rifle with open sights. There is a challenge. An opportunity to learn!

Got a decent Dillon progressive machine? Instead of another rifle, learn what a standard AR can do... Then, maybe get a match rifle or upper? Shoot those 77/75 gr matchloads at magazine length and its like a whole nother rifle.

It truly depends on what you want. I have a 300-221 (300blk) and it is a very versatile round. I shoot everything from frangable to very heavy cast bullets suppressed. The only true short coming of this round is they are far more fun as a SBR or handgun and with a suppressor.

I do want a 6MM-223 just because. Also I kind of want a 222 upper.

You know.. it would be nice if the BR worked well in the AR format. A 22 BR would be really fun!

If you are going to use it for hunting real stuff; How about a .458SOCOM? I have used mine to whack hogs and an Asian Water buffalo. I used 400 gr bullets @ 1650 f/s. That thing is a real "thumper".

Ummm the 6AR!

The Grendel case necked to 6mm - as it should have been originally.

Love the Grendel, but the 6AR is just a blast, and most 6mm bullets are better suited for the Grendel case than most 6.5 mm bullets.

Insanely accurate, and much better MV than Grendel.

6mm Hagar or 6mm turbo (Rat) 105 Hybrid @ 2800+
I would be care full running a 470 case head (6BR) in
AR-15. Barrel extension gets pretty thin at that point
Talk to Robert @ 6mmAR

I've somehow become an AR collector and likewise am always on the lookout for a unique one. For the -15 format; I'm thinking 6mm as in 6mmAR; is very appealing, but for hunting hogs a 50 Beowulf, or 458 socom does have some interest. The larger format -10 (or DPMS similar) would be better for the larger than PPC case heads (or larger than Hagar/spc).

I also really like the idea someone previously mentioned of 223 with heavies from mag length; they do perform very well at ranges farther than I ever expected.
