AR Guy's Need Opinion

I'm in the process of starting an ar build, going to be a 6.5 grendel have a lower and a 24" barrel with 1in 8 twist 5R was wondering what upper receiver , looking at a Bravo Company or a Vltor at the moment what do you think?

I think they are all basically the same. Last I looked there was only so many manufacturers for mil spec parts, then companies put their name on them from buying them whole sale to resale...

I got a $60 stripped upper and lower I built a grendel on and it can out shoot many people with a bolt gun. Internal parts are more important, as is the barrel quality.

the vltor mur is hard to beat especially for a precision gun. stiffer upper for better barrel support with a heavy barrel. two others are the dpms lopro and the mega.

VERY pleased with my Mega Arms billet upper/lower combo.
They make two different shapes of upper as well as a heavy duty, thick wall option.
Rainier Arms usually has good inventory & prices. Very good customer service.

I would consider a premium barrel extension from BAT or the new "long match barrel" offering from White Oak, if the barrel has not yet been turned.
-
FWIW, I elected to have a professional (Compass Lake) assemble the gun and it was some of the best money I've ever spent. Seriously worth the minor expense compared to the total cost of the project. The gun cycles **perfectly** and the rounds eject at the perfect angle & fall so consistently it's hard to believe.

Take advice from a pro (not me) when it comes to deciding where to apportion money within your build.
The folks at Compass Lake were very giving of their time, and much like an honest auto mechanic, it is very confidence inspiring to hear where NOT to spend money. They know what contributes to accuracy and what is just hype.

I would vote MUR for a precision rig. That said, Mega make nice parts and would work well also.

Place here in Grants Pass sells
Sasquach Arms. Machined billet uppers and lowers. Last time I was in they quoted me
Right around $1450 for a built piston operated rifle. Check em out.
When it comes to cleaning piston guns are the way to go. I have a POF 15 and love that it dosent get cruddy like the 2
direct impigment rifles we have.
