Uniforming pockets help

Here is result wroth PMA adjustable cutter. Pockets don't clean all the way up. Ever so slightly visible on very outer edge, then the middle around flash hole gets cut. Then untouched part as it gets to edge.

PMA instructions say not to have shiny ring at flash hole.

So is my cutter not set up correct?

My adjustable K&M tool cuts the corner of the pocket and occasionally cuts excess material around the flash hole. Though in my case I've not seen quite that much material cut around the flash hole.......... Adjusting the cut depth by .001" or less can be extremely frustrating to accomplish and waste many cases. The idea is to uniform the depth without weakening the case head. You've done that so let it be. ;)

My K&M is not adjustable. My Hart is by a screw on the opposite end. Mine get cut flat and shiny all the way to the edge. Matt
Thanks for the tip ! Didn't realize a cutter with a co-axial adjustment screw was available. But, will the Hart small PP reamer fit in a 3/8" chuck??.......... Or, could the tool be turned down on a lathe so it will??

I believe I fit mine in a Dewalt. I believe they have both regular and carbide cutters. Go to RWHart&Son. Matt

Matt. Hart has updated the design for their PP depth uniformers (large & small PP's) Not yet shown at either Midway or Hart site. They both include a hex attachment so they will fit into a 3/8 inch chuck. Just ordered the small PP uniformer to see how it works. Agree with your opinion of cleaning the entire bottom of the primer pocket. Thanks for helping a blind hog find an acorn:)

Your welcome and make sure you don't make them to deep. Matt

Matt, Dale...... on my first ever "match" brass I did the pockets to 100% cleanup. Never had issue or trouble.

But I was wanting to check sincentives directions said NOT to clean entire pocket. So I was confused

I guess I'll adjust to just barely clean entire pocket. I know that you don't want to cut them too deep

Thanks

I don't cut mine until after I fire them once, then you will get good cuts. And better E.S. over the chronograph. All I do is the flash holes.

Just did some measuring at the advice by a couple members. My BR brass untouched pockets I am getting 0.1235" depth. So this is over SAAMI maximum from everything I have read. Which explains why when I adjust my cutter to 0.123 nothing happens to the pockets. And why the above picture was cutting that way measures 0.124".

Just opinion but in my experience, I don't uniform pockets at all on Lapua brass, and just lightly if at all clean them after firing.
