Ultimate coyote round.

Years ago I gave the 65 JLK's a try. There was minimal expansion even when pushed hard from a .22 CHeetah. Went back to the 75 A-max after having several runners from the JLK's. Problem solved.

Uh boy  What twist rate did you run?

Thanks for that info! Had a buddy try the 52 JLKs going FAST, but he wasn't exactly thrilled with them on coyotes, either...
Just gotta scratch the itch with the 60s, cuz it looks that good on 'paper'. Who knows, maybe they'll hit pay dirt! If not, got backup plans in place for that barrel. Heck, a 55gr Btip @ 4250+ wouldn't be such a bad thing?

i tried nosler 55gr b-tips in a 1-8 twist knowing it was to fast and lost about every other shot around 4200fps. dont remember exact number as gun was built for the heavies so didnt really care.

Yeah, that's ALOT to ask that little bullet to take! 378,000 RPM... NO GOOD

Sorry, I should clarify! The barrel intended for the 60 LD JLKs is a 1:12. Reckon a 55 B-tip would do well enough, and would only be spinnin' ~253,000 RPM @ 4250 fps from the 1:12. Infinitely more survivable!!!

Fredo

I was running a 9 twist at the time. Thought maybe the first coyote was a fluke. But 3 coyotes later , all with perfect shot placement, and all 3 requiring finishing shots. Not a pleasant experience for either of us. Back to the 75 A-max and problem solved.

In a 223, try the 65 SGK ... SSCoyote turned me onto that bullet after seeing the Looong range kills he was making with his
223AI AR15 ... several over 500 yds. I have yet to lose one myself to that bullet. I will add that it has not been the most fur friendly inside of 125 yds. Mine are leaving the pipe @ 3125 FPS. Though SSCoyote and a few others are showing positive results with the new 69 Gr TMK ...Hmmm higher BC.

Plus 1 on the 65 SGK. Accurate too.

Other than the "long arm" of an extremely fast bullet, what advantage does a high MV provide~? Is a faster bullet less subject to wind deflection~? Does a faster MV cause faster barrel erosion~?

I also have several Remington's 700s that I have converted over to a barrel nut,
they are working out quite well and have made things a lot easier, they both have there pros and cons.
In any case I can buy 4 barrels for the price of one decent rig, and have got it down to 5 min to swap a barrel
That's headspaced and ready to shoot. so I have never looked back

Dean

PS: 75gr of RL17 with 75gr Vmax's are a sight to be seen, "I love equal parts powder and bullets" as well as 70gr of RL17 and Barnes 100gr TTSXs
Using the barrel nut, are the Remington and savages factory barrels or have they been worked on? (Trued up, etc.)

Digging up bones:) Can you believe that no one suggested the 6mm ARC as a top ranked cartridge for the task at hand?

Sir: I’m a big proponent of barrel nuts. Currently have a Remington and a TL3 set up. What’s your procedure to get a switch done so quickly?

The 6mm ARC is still in its infancy and is still not showing up at shops or shows. I like everything I've read about the cartridge, but I'm not going to put myself into the position of desperately hunting ammo or loading components like I did with the 6mm PPC. I'll stick with the tried and true cartridges that have been around forever for which ammo and reloading components will always be readily available~!

I have been out of the loop for a little while but some things don't change, You have to find a Gunsmith and work with him to get what you want.

Yes less drop and wind deflection, My findings are a lighter bullet will erode less than a heavier bullet. Lets say you have a 300 WinMag one with a 110 Vmax and one with a 220 grain bullet, which one takes more energy to start moving the mass which ineffect takes a toll on a barrel. By the time any serious pressure is being built in the chamber with the 110gr it is already moving forward which reduces wear and tear on the barrel, it is like dropping the clutch on a 2000 pound car vs a 4000 pound car which one will be harder on the clutch.

Hmmm~! Logical as he!!. Why didn't I think of that? Thanks~!

I have a saying or motto and I stick by it, "The less time a bullet stays in the wind the less it will be affected by the wind"

Little known fact, the faster you send a bullet the more it's BC increases, most BC are taken at 3000 fps I have spoken to many bullet mfg about this and they all agree but are not willing to spend resources on pursuing it. One bullet mfg said that he looked into it briefly and found that there was a significant increase in BC from 3000 to 4000 he did not give me any numbers. That explains why when I was sending a .250 bc bullet at 4000fps the chart said it would drop so many inches. I always had a lot less drop than the chart said and when I was reaching 4500 fps there was even more of a discrepancy between my results and the chart and finaly at 5000 fps you can only imagine the spread between the two.

I don't own one, and have never shot one, but I've always thought a 243 Win with a 55gr pill would be an impressive coyote round. I'd also like to hit one with a 22 Creed pushing a 62gr ELD (something else I don't own... yet).
