Turn Your FX-120i into a Prometheus

Received my trickler today, after the usual pissing around setting the unit up, 200 rounds loaded in a flash.

Whilst I still hate reloading, I now hate it a little less.

OMG!

I just weighed out 50 'Palma' charges in about 18 minutes, a couple of which were wasted 'cause I dumped a weighed charge into an already filled case.

Clearly Adam's trickler tie-in to an FX120i won't cure screwups on the part of the operator.

But it sure does speed up my reloading!!

Thanks man, you deserve that Tesla! (Hope this market's big enough to buy you one!)

Steve:

What is your sequence? Using dippers? Two pans? Light charges? How you doing it?

Yep, two pans (equalized to 0.000g), throw light with my Harrell's (lighter than when I used an Omega, otherwise it's done too fast!), both hands constantly in motion!

These 50 were my very first group so I'm confident I can work out a comfortable sequence before long.

One risk is of skipping a case so until I get better I'm checking each one before seating proceeds.

I was gonna do a short video but I filled all the empty cases I had so quick I didn't think to stop....

That was my exact time as well for 50 Palma cases. The only difference between our two systems was I used a Lee dipper.

Ok, got mine working like I want it.

Wife had something like these: http://www.webstaurantstore.com/dar...c-souffle-portion-cup-2500-case/301325PC.html

I use this for my pan on the scale now, 1.5" height on the sides. Just a touch of heat from a Cigarette lighter on one side and I formed a pour-spout.

Powder measure with hose thru the top cover of the scale into the pan. It doesn't splash out now; funneling attachment on the end of the hose slows it down a little going into the pan.

Put the pan on the scale, wait for scale to zero and the motor to start on the trickler, throw the measure lever which feeds powder to the pan.

Wait for trickler to shut off, pull pan and replace with next pan.

Repeat

Regarding anti-spill containers for dispensing directly into from a powder measure... I've been doing some experimenting as well while I've been working on the automated powder measure. The RCBS adjustable drop chute that I tried in revision 1 of the automated measure is somewhat of a POS, so rather than build an elaborate baffled drop chute to use a standard powder pan I decided to see what kind of container I could find that would work with a standard straight drop tube.

Both of these work great. Sides are tall enough such that there's no "splash over" from a straight drop tube, they're stainless so they don't interfere with the magnetic force restoration in the scale, they won't suffer from static build up like a plastic container can which can skew the measurement, and both pour easily into a funnel.

The little spout on the Oxo jigger is nice, but the angled internals on the graduated side can lead to a few kernels of powder splashing out of it if the drop tube dumps powder in the wrong spot. The simple 3oz stainless shot glasses actually work better to avoid splash out.

Finished the bearing mod. I used the same bearings but bought flange bearings and did a pressed fit. The only thing left to do is take some of the wobble out of the extension tube.
Adam you are the man.

"For the A&D version, setting a target and start/stop controls use only the buttons on the scale itself. No extra power cord necessary (except in Australia)"

Is Australian version of FX-120i different?
There is no 12V output from RS-233 port?
I bought my scale from Japan, waiting, I am worry about it.

Is power of serial port enough for long time using? I am afraid about overheating of scales internals.

Thanks.

The power supply with the scales purchased in Australia are the TB-238. This is a lower quality adapter and won't work with the trickler. The proper adapter is the TB-248. If you don't have the TB-248 then let me know what you have. All I need to do is supply a separate power adapter and a slightly different version of the electronics. It's no extra cost, just need to know in advance is all.

FYI for anyone going to the FCNC in Ottawa, I will be there, I will have a demo of the trickler set up in my room on the base, and I will have some A&D units available.

More adept at handling two scale pans now, got things laid out a little more ergonomic too; just charged 100 'Palma' loads, each batch of 50 took just under 10 minutes, ~ 12 seconds each.

Would have been even less had I dumped more powder into trickler funnel! I notice it tends to run longer once powder drops down & doesn't reach feed tube port.

More you do stuff the more you find ways to do it better.

I've checked specs and bad news is that my Japan scale comes with TB-109 power adapter - AC100V (+10%, - 15 %), 50Hz / 60Hz.
TB-248's cost is about $50-60, I need it ASAP, amazon.com sells it.

I can just send you the external power version of electronics. Have you already ordered a trickler? Email me to sort this out.

Been playing with mine attached to the Fx-120i for several weeks now and although it dispensed perfectly 99.9% of the time I also wasn't happy with the metal on metal fit between the tube and housing. I'm an anal tinkerer so I drilled out the housing in one pass, epoxied the bearings in and used "Rockset" to attach the tube to the bearings. I was able to get rid of all the collars/washers, but added an o-ring to keep the white sleeve from backing off the retaining pin. Runs Oh-so smooth but I also can't cope with the 'quickness" and find myself double charging some pieces of brass. Very obvious when the saturn funnel won't empty:( ARGH!! Great product by Adam!! Eric, I just fired mine up yesterday. All I can say is wow! You are right about the double charging! I have 400 rounds to do for the match this weekend and this scale system makes at least the powder charging portion enjoyable. Wanna do your modifications to another trickler? I'll pay you for time and materials.
