The knife edges are the part that the whole beam pivots on. They lay in the floating Agate bearing "Vee" blocks. This is the heart of any beam scale, with dull, bent, chipped or in any other way damaged knife edges the scale will never be reliable or accurate. If you think you may have a problem with them just be careful, it is very easy to damage them beyond repair. To dress up the knife edges takes just the smallest wipe with a very fine stone, preferably in a jig to maintain the exact angle and straightness of the edge.dieselten said:What is the "knife edge"?
