I made a new batch of 103 Bullets this week to work with in The General Lee for any upcoming BR matches.
so this morning I loaded up 5 each of the 103’s at 31.6, 31.8 and 32.0 grains and took to the range.
Today it started out cold 35* but I waited until the temps reached 50* and of course the wind got up to and was switching all over and was about 4-6 mph. Needless to say with all the rain mirage was horrible as well. Luckily with the tracking of The General Lee I was able to run the groups fairly quick with no adjusting of the rests.
So I got started with shooting a couple foulers at 500 yards and then watched for a dominating wind direction and as a shift would occur I’d shoot a shot to see where it land. Surprisingly the Bullets didn’t drift far from POA
So now I started the test and waited out again the dominant wind direction and racked out 5 as quickly as possible. Couldn’t see the groups due to mirage so I again waited out the wind for sets 2 and 3 of the loads I HD with me. Again can’t see the groups. So I had 2 sighters left and decided go back to the steel and see where impacts were. Shot 1 low right aprox 6-8” and shot two the same.
Now I’m worried did my second group get on paper? Won’t know until line goes cold and I go down range.
On my way down I’m thinking to myself why did I do this? It was windy and switching. It was cold and lots mirage. I just wasted time Bullets and powder. I pull-up and damn!!!! All groups on paper and very respectable to say the least. Not sure to call it luck or was it a good guess on seating depth and starting powder charges. Anyways I’m quiet happy with the node of powder charge of .4 grains and I’m thinking no need in chasing seating depth either.
below is my target and rifle used.
I’ll get a better pic of groups I must cut off the side of target taking pics without knowing.
