TUBB DUST

I'm my experience decoppering agents are a convenience and have nothing to do with improving accuracy. Hence the skepticism of some of our members.

Which decoppering agents did you try?

I don't think Tubb Dust is advertised to "improve accuracy" (unless I missed that which is possible). I think it is advertised to decrease coppering in the barrel, which might prolong accuracy between cleanings.

1. I ain't got no dog in this fight.

2. As far as the price analysis you posted, we can either have price controls or free enterprise.

To others asking what copper cleaners someone may have used, the answer is pretty much all of them without realizing how bad a job I was doing until I got my colonoscopy scope from Teslong about two weeks ago. For the last two weeks or so, (and including last night when Brownells delivered 4 oz. of KG) I have been using one cleaner each evening and have finally scoped a non coppered barrel last night. I have used brushes and patches. I will know Sunday whether or not it matters in the first place when I go to the range with exactly the same powder charge, cases, bullets and methods in making them that I have before seeing my copper fouled bore.

I have used on THIS barrel. Wipe Out or Patch Out (I forget which), Shooter's Choice, Butches Bore Shine, Bore Tech Eliminator, Bore Tech Cu+2 and the KG and a few more that I forget since I am writing this from my office.I have never used any abrasive paste but will try some of it (Iosso and JB) on an old coppery barrel I had swapped out about nine months ago. I will be ordering the Tubb Dust in the Spring when I can work outside cleaning.

If the Vv powders have decoppering agent and are supposed to be temp stable, a man might need to revisit them in a new way.

I think I'll get some new N160 and temp test it... I hope to do some of that once it warms up a bit.

And how do you know what is in it?

I looked it up as well. The second site, that George? mentioned had some 200 mesh for $75 per pound. Tubb's comes in at 330 gr iirc per tin.
But, we still dont know if there is anything "else" innit. Actually, does anyone here Truly Know that it is bismuth?

Hahahaha, you win, I don’t, but it wouldn’t matter what he puts in it for that price. Cleaning a barrel is a lot easier and cheaper than going this route, imho.

I understand whst you are saying. It is good to know the little tin of Tubb Dust treats something like 80 lbs of powder... I don't know the exact number but it's on the web page I think.

Brushes ain't free!! :)

For those that have tried it, does it increase carbon build up? I have not tried the dust, but I do use both rl16 and rl23. They both have a decoppering agent and lay down a lot more carbon than other rl powders. Honestly Id prefer them without the de coppering agent if thats the cause of the carbon. Copper is easy to remove compared to carbon. Either way I dont really care so long as the accuracy is there.

I use R16 and AR Comp almost exclusively these days. I find whatever is in there, is pretty easy to remove. My barrels clean up pretty easily.

I really think what people think is carbon is actually the decoppering agent. And people should just leave it. It is coating the barrel. If you look at the VV pictures I posted you can clearly see the decoppering agent picture appears to be much more carboned up, but that is simply the decoppering agent.

Im talking hard carbon. The stuff thats still there after you clean the barrel normally. Copper and powder are a non issue, easy to remove. Hard carbon is a problem because if it does get built up you have to get aggressive with the cleaning procedure and that can hurt a barrel. You are seeing a lot more bore scope pics these days. Pay attention to the really clean ones. You will see a smoother finish in those bores. Thats because abrasives are used to maintain that squeaky clean bore too often. I have no issue with jb in a barrel as needed, but if we can reduce the amount needed thats a good thing.

Hmmm. Have not seen that hard carbon any different than r15 or Lt32, or N160. But I will watch for it. 2020 will reveal a lot of things!!
