Trouble with 230 A-tips

These are 250’s. I seat them deep and shoot them out of a 300 Win Mag SAAMI spec chamber, because in theory the throat lengthens, but once it’s too long gas blows by. I try to capture as much throat life as possible.

Truth is all high BC factory match ammo is seated with the bearing surface past the junction. I would like to seat them shallow, but the group size seems bigger when I’ve tried that.

The big background cutaways of bullets on the Hornady podcasts show every bullet illustrated being seated well below the junction.

I’m waiting for the podcast where they say not to do that. Then I’ll comment on the pictures behind them.
