My Berger 30 cal 215 gr and 230 gr Hybrid bullet test

Well I tested these bullets and all I can say is WOW!

My 300 RUM really liked them, it's a trued Rem 700 with a 29" Lilja 1-10" twist 6 groove barrel with a Vais brake bedded in a McMillan A-2 stock topped with a Leupold Mark 4 8.5-25x50 mildot scope.

I shot a total of 18 - 3 shot groups at 300 yds, 500 meters, 600yds and 1000yds.

All groups were shot prone off a bipod with a rear bean bag.

The largest group I shot was .7 moa at 600yds with the 230 gr bullet and I believe it was me who contributed to it being that big as 2 of the shots were only 2.25" apart with the other shot going high, the smallest group was .179 moa at 1000yds.

Both the 215 and the 230 gr bullets shot so well for me I will be replacing the other bullets I shoot with these, the average moa for all the groups shot was .457 moa.

I used Remington brass, Hodgdon AR2217 / H1000 powder and Win WLRM primers for all the loads.

85 grs with the 230's gave 2900 fps and 90 grs with the 215's was 3050, I could have gone up a little with the 230 gr bullet but was satisfied with the speed and accuracy it had at 2900 fps.

I used one seating depth for all the loads, just a few thou off the lands for a COAL of just under 4".

I could not seat them to fit the magazine length of 3.675 because I ran out of bullet shank in the neck at that length, not a problem as I don't mind single feeding.

When I checked out the bullets I was impressed with the consistency, I didn't do any bullet sorting when loading the ammo.

Looking forward to hearing from the other testers to see how well they shot for them.

I'd like to revive this topic for a bit....anyone else have any results. What twist is recomended for the 230's in, say, a WSM? I am thinking about a new tube for my HG for next year....don't know about going with a 1-9 or 1-10 twist. My currant HG tube is a 1-10 Hart......it has been consitant, but it has never shot anything really small....6, 7, 8, 9, inch groups...mostly 8's and 9's. Only 1000 rounds through it. Tried 210 VLD and 208 AMAX . My Dasher was only average ..... untill I swiched bullets!! Maybe wake this Hart up with a switch.

Anyone???

If I was you I would give the 215's a try, don't think you would give up much to the 230's as they would be going faster.
I believe a 1-10" twist 300 WSM with the 215's would be a great combination.

i tried a 9" twist hart out of my .300wm shooting 240 sierras and it was a copper mine!!!!! i loaded them up to 2900 fps but with that twist, the 240s shot better at around 2700 fps (best groups of .5 at 100 yards). at both the low and high end, the copper was really bad. several days of soaking/scrubbing the bore to get out the copper was the norm. i think a 10 twist is about right for the 240 sierras and the 230 bergers. i am in the process of getting a reamer made in .300wsm with a long throat for the 210-230 bergers and am going to go with a 10" twist 3R or 5R barrel. this should treat those bullets very delicately. i will share updates as soon as it all comes together. by the way, i am in no way knocking hart barrels--i have shot a couple of their barrels and they have shot real good--just had a little trouble with the above combo.
