Trigger question for you pistol shooters.

Tips on Improving a Sig P229 Trigger or ?
I built a couple fixtures for stoning the sear and measuring sear “angle”. The short reset kit Sig offers does a good job at minimizing reset trigger travel. I also like to install over travel stops and sometimes a screw to minimize pre-travel (in single action mode). I drop the mainspring weight a bit also.

Sometimes with the above mentioned mods, the firing pin safety lever is too short to fully push the block out of the way and the pin can drag. To fix that I made new levers and grind to fit.

There’s a good amount of discussion on the sigtalk forum. I should mention that I don’t carry, these see use only for fun shooting. Some friends of mine are paranoid about any modification, etc……

A couple more pics of the levers and trigger over travel stop. The triggers are MIM I believe and quite hard. I used a tiny carbide end mill to make a hole, then pressed in a delrin stop.

You should shoot a West German Sig P220 in 45 or 9mm. on par with my Gold Cup and early Python for accuracy.
I agree. I milled the slide of a P220 ST for a Delta Point Pro. If I cheat and shoot off a rest, I’ve gotten some 3-shot groups about an inch at 36yds. A few yrs ago there were police trade-ins of this model for $500. Being stainless slide and frame, you just bead blast them to erase all holster wear marks.IMG_0501.jpeg

Browning Hi-Power in 9mm Luger. Mine's Belgian and I had Gunsite remove the mag disconnect, tune the trigger, and build a custom safety lever. With either of the two new Hi-Power clones available, the mag disconnect is absent I think.

Belgium for mine as well, came as a 40 S&W, but had a Bar-sto 9mm barrel fitted along with a Bomar Combat adjustable sight mount low in the slide, as well as replaced the trigger without the mag safety.
Bill and his team at C&S are the best.

agreed on the 1911. Notice that a few of the very top level precision shooters prefer their 1911 be a little different. I understand they press as the sights move toward the center and hold as the sights move away.
When I shot precision I liked the proverbial breaks like a glass rod with safe pressure on the centerfire/.45 and on my .22 rimfire on a 1911 frame the trigger is also very light. Many many shots fired. Performance Center triggers on the S&W were very good indeed for a long time, then they declined, I have no idea what they are currently. The original Python however fragile was a good trigger.

I carried a gunsmithed 1911 in 9x23 for many years and had a Wilson for backup and games and high round count training. I have been forced by age and eyesight to move to a red dot, and chose to go with a polymer for weight and capacity in 9x19. I went with the S&W M&P2 fueled by Ed Brown with the Acme trigger group installed and tuned by Ed Brown and was pleasantly surprised by feel. Not as good as well tuned 1911 but as good as run of armory pistols.

If you otherwise like the Beretta I'm sure Langdon or Wilson could give you an acceptable trigger though perhaps not to your liking as much as the very best of 1911. Suarez for the CZ and so it goes.

I guess someone needs to say it. No matter what you buy, you will probably end up having a trigger job on the gun. It seems like every gun I own has had a trigger job. I'm just to anal about smoothness. I own four Beretta's three of them have LTT trigger jobs. That really makes a difference and they are as smooth as silk. CZ's with Cajun gun works triggers are also really nice. You get what you pay for. Good luck finding the gun you like. There are a ton of options out there. Don't limit yourself to the 1911 platform.

I usually only shoot revolvers but would like a pistol.
The problem i have are the triggers.
Im so spoild with beautiful smith and wesson triggers, moving to a pistol just hasnt worked well for me.
The only pistol i can shoot well is a 1911. Ive owned a Beretta 92fs hated the trigger
Ive had a SW 9mm the trigger seemed like a prototype to me.
And the absolute worst was a new walther trigger..
Im kind of ..ok im completely old school.
If it doesnt (Snap!) Like a 1911..whats the point in owning it.
I looked at a new S&W at the gun store and the trigger had all sort of pins, and bars attached to it outside the gun.
It looked like hell and an area for sand and lint to mix with oil and get packed in..

Are there any pistol manufacturers who make a sweet trigger in a pistol that isnt 1911.
I would like to be a modern man. But modern pistol triggers just suck..i dont need all this goodlfy wieght reduction cut out, or titanium coated barrels..stop that nonsense and focus on a proper trigger..
What pistol out there has the best trigger..
Not one that has 3 different parts hanging off it.
To satisfy a US court of law.
But one that "snaps" clean.
I dont want to drag back 3 different safty mechanism to release the hammer.
Maybe i can just remove them one buy one..hahaha

I dont realy know how else to ask this question and not sound so unpleasant
Hahaha sorry about that

Howdy !

If you liked the 1911, but don’t want so many moving pieces necessary for firing the gun,
what some did during the era of Cooper’s influence was have their grip safety “pinned”.

IMHO - this was done to help better ensure gun could still be fired in the event operator’ “purchase” on the gun was sub-optimal; here read…during competition; or hurried self-defense scenarios. And, the grip safety could still be restored to its conventional operating mode; if desired. You’d have the 1911 trigger you like, either gun configuration.

I own a Para 1911 double stack that is a double action. The trigger feel in this gun is great.
But is it like gripping a Desert Eagle 50AE.?
I remember when FN hit the scene with the first dbl stack mag 45acp it was a tactical package that came in a zipper soft case , a few extra mags oh it had the first red dot mounted on a factory pistol. .( maybe not the first but dang near if memories serve me correctly) does any one remember those?
FN may still offer it. But i haven't seen them in years
Its to big for everyday carry unless your in I.C.E. or an operator ..but boy is it nice.
The other problem is how the gun fits my hand.
The 1911 is the only pistol on the market i have found that practically (Clicks!) Into my hand like it was made for me.
And if a gun doesnt fit my hand correctly forgetboutit..i cant hit a thing..
The Beretta's are like that for me..the ergonomics are just all wrong (for me) but once again i dont know many gun manufacturers whos fit and finish is pretty as Beretta 92 pistols.
I had a few different kimbers..i liked but not loved one kimber pro carry i had was amazing..I was almost surgical with it , not to braggggggg hahaha..honestly i had some hot handloads i would shoot and that gun loved them.
The fit in my hand, the balance was spot on, and the trigger was awesome.
I like the 45acp..its slow and heavy..it wont blow thru your target..it will create so much hydroshock damage the copper jacket is kind of unnecessary
I have not found to many things wiggling around long after being hit with the 45acp..it has a nice way of making things leak all over the place hahahahaha

is your Browning accurate? Nice Belgian model.

CZ TSO is twice as good as 210 target. Have both. Both are great guns..but the CZ is a notch above.

The good sigs. X5’s

Cz with Cajun Gunworks parts

Any 2011/double stack 9 can be tuned easily

Beretta with Langdon parts

For striker fired, walther or canik

My favorite, Dan Wesson DWX. Best of all worlds.
Dan Wesson!..they still around i haven't seen or heard about them in years..im gonna google them..
