Trigger question for you pistol shooters.

I usually only shoot revolvers but would like a pistol.
The problem i have are the triggers.
Im so spoild with beautiful smith and wesson triggers, moving to a pistol just hasnt worked well for me.
The only pistol i can shoot well is a 1911. Ive owned a Beretta 92fs hated the trigger
Ive had a SW 9mm the trigger seemed like a prototype to me.
And the absolute worst was a new walther trigger..
Im kind of ..ok im completely old school.
If it doesnt (Snap!) Like a 1911..whats the point in owning it.
I looked at a new S&W at the gun store and the trigger had all sort of pins, and bars attached to it outside the gun.
It looked like hell and an area for sand and lint to mix with oil and get packed in..

Are there any pistol manufacturers who make a sweet trigger in a pistol that isnt 1911.
I would like to be a modern man. But modern pistol triggers just suck..i dont need all this goodlfy wieght reduction cut out, or titanium coated barrels..stop that nonsense and focus on a proper trigger..
What pistol out there has the best trigger..
Not one that has 3 different parts hanging off it.
To satisfy a US court of law.
But one that "snaps" clean.
I dont want to drag back 3 different safty mechanism to release the hammer.
Maybe i can just remove them one buy one..hahaha

I dont realy know how else to ask this question and not sound so unpleasant
Hahaha sorry about that

S&W revolvers, at least the ones I have owned which are a lot, have target grade quality triggers in single action mode. I shot them in both NRA Precision Pistol (Bullseye) and Hunter's Pistol Silhouette. It's an apples and oranges comparison to most centerfire semi auto's which are primarily designed for self-defense purposes.

Except for semi auto's that are designed for target / competition shooting, most centerfire factory semi-autos have heavy triggers which is not a bad thing since most of these are designed for a self-defense. The heavy trigger helps mitigate an unintentional discharge in a highly stressful self-defense situation. In a threat situation, you will never notice the trigger pull. It ain't target shooting.

The competition grade 1911's are hard to beat for a semi auto centerfire recreational target pistol. So realistically defining your needs for a semi auto pistol might go a long way in helping you make a selection that will best serve your needs.

I owned a Ruger P85 (9mm) and P89 (45cal) and I don’t remember hating either of their triggers in SA or DA mode. I wish I hadn’t sold them because both of them shot well with just about anything I fed them. But, I wanted something else…. Besides that they are uglier than 10 days of sin, big, heavy and just… clunky. That and I’ve sold every Ruger I own because I just don’t like them.

But I think they had ok triggers for what they were. Not a S&W trigger or 1911 but also not a Glock trigger.

Sorry, not sure this was any help so it is what it is! :)

You should shoot a West German Sig P220 in 45 or 9mm. on par with my Gold Cup and early Python for accuracy.

1911 guy here also, you will never be satisfied with much anything else. In a semi auto my #2 is my Hi-power (9mm & 40A&W) (trigger work by me) and #3 is a Sig 320, of course in 45 ACP. I have a lot of other pistols but their triggers are what they are based on the type of pistol (Beretta, H&K, Ruger, S&W, etc), functional but nothing exceptional. In the revolver line it is hard to beat that old S&W Mod 28 or a Ruger Vaquero with an action job by Cylinder & Slide.

Edit, My German Sig 229 (357 Sig) is up there in that top 3 above
Just my .02
Tim

Well at least im not the only one..now i know im not crazy. it also explains why the 1911 love is still going strong.
I had a sig p220 .it was a 1200$ beautiful gun and the worst lemon ive ever owned in my firearms experience, the Taurus was the next lemon
I know folks love SIG but ill never buy another one..
Hk has never felt good in my hand and i have no experience with HK triggers
And back to the old 1911.
I guess its foolish to think perfection could ever be improved

For triggers on semi auto pistols, you're going to be hard pressed to meet or beat a 1911.

I'll agree that the Baretta 92 has a horrible trigger!! The single biggest reason for me not owning one!

You mentioned the Walther trigger, but didn't comment on what model.
For me the striker fired pistols are carried more.
They are the ones that get banged, bounced, rained on.
My 1911 is more my Sunday go to church pistol. Lol
Springfield Armory Champion.

With that, I'm still somewhat of a trigger snob.
The 4 pistols that I regularly rotate through are .
Walther PPS gen 1 micro 9mm.
Walther PPQ gen 2 45ACP. This is a rather large pistol.
FH 509C. Mid sized 9mm
H&K VP9 another mid sized 9mm.

You can do trigger work on a Glock and make it feel much better, but I can't get past the grip shape.

The good sigs. X5’s

Cz with Cajun Gunworks parts

Any 2011/double stack 9 can be tuned easily

Beretta with Langdon parts

For striker fired, walther or canik

My favorite, Dan Wesson DWX. Best of all worlds.
