Tracking plate

What is your opinion on track plates? Does attaching a track plate to a PRS-stock helps a lot in tracking on the rest like SEB-mini?
I passed temporarily on new stock and looking for an interim solution.

It can help but we would know how to suggest which one if you gave us details on your stock.
Does it have M-Lok attachment capability, Anschutz rail, pic rail, other?
BTW, both you have as examples above are not available. The Whidden shows discontinued and the XLR version shows sold out.

Here are a couple more possibilities:

Some time ago, I purchased both the Whidden tracking plate and the Sinclair/Brownells BR adapter. I modified the Whidden plate by drilling/tapping a couple extra screw holes and adding two QD throw lever clamps to make it easy to put on/ take off of a picatinny rail. Both work in that they do exactly what they're supposed to do and allow a rifle with a stock that has a foregrip that was not really designed for use in a front rest to track appropriately.

Are they just as stable and do they work just as well as a stock that was designed for use in a front rest? I'm going to say probably not. It's close, and they both certainly do the job. However, because of the way they are attached to the rifle stock and their dimensions (i.e. depth of the sides), they really can't be expected to provide the exact same stability one can expect from a rifle stock with deep flat sides that was purpose-designed to ride in a front rest.

I cannot speak to the function of the Kaizen tracking plate because I have never used one. It looks to be a much different animal than the two tracking plates I have and should work very well as long as it is solidly attached to the forgrip.

Generally I would not want anything to raise my center of gravity. If you use something
low profile and wide enough for the rest it could work well and keep your rifle as low as possible
in the front rest.

If John Widden makes it, it is top shelf and you can't go wrong with it.

I have seen a number of PRS shooters trying to be competitive in benchrest. They often have some form of detachable tracking plate to use with their front rests. I even have one on my AR to compete in benchrest steel shoots.

They sure help if you use a front rest with a stable pocket for the tracking plate.

That dropped bag rider looks like a nice idea to convert stocks to a rest.
I went homemade with a lead filled aluminum box on a kitchen assembled AR-15 for F-Open.
Weighs 3.6 pounds bringing the overall weight with empty mag to 20 pounds.
Attaches with machine screws from the bottom to a steel rail inside the handguard.
It raises the CG so not the greatest. Maybe a thinner box or heavy channel but with a weight loss.

Quick detach and slide on to picatinny rail.

For those types of stocks, get some 3" aluminum channel and bolt
thru the sides. You'll be alot lower, plus you can make it longer to
move the rifle weight back some. I have one of my Rock River's that
needs converting, but these bolt gun things got in my way......LOL

@Fuj I like your design very much. I terms of center of gravity it nails it. Can you make one for oryx chassis?

That is an Oryx chassis !! Did'nt stop there either. Whittled on a 7 lb
block of aluminum for my new style rear bag rider. Being different
by adding a bump stop on the stock itself.

I attached a tracking plate to a McMillen A3, which is similar to the PRS, and it really helped. I highly recommend doing it. I have it on a SEB Mini.
I made mine with a 3D printer. The first one was 1/2 inch high on the sides, and it worked well, but then I made one with 3/4 inch sides and it is better.

Yes the tracking plates need to be high enough and rigid enough to fully support the rifle in the rest. mine are all .750 tall on the sides and taper back to .500.

Went with the 3"x 1.5"x6"x1/4" steel channel.
Adds weight for F-Class and an AR
Steel flat on inside of handgaurd.
