Did a search and at first I thought EC's method would be my choice, then I was leaning towards Speedy's. Then I found the Deep Creek method and jumped on it. Very slick and easy and about as objective as you can get.

It’s odd that this YouTube page is somewhat opaque. There is only the one video. I suppose this is vestigial.

Seen those videos many times. My only problem is that method does not work with a Savage Action. Even with the Pin and Ejector removed because of the rear bolt baffle the bolt will not fall freely like shown. Even completely unloaded.
Yes, they will.

You have to pretty much disassemble the bolt. Remove the BAS and rear baffle. Pull the firing pin assembly. Push out the toggle pin, and remove both the gas baffle behind the bolt head, and the wave washer. Remove the ejector plunger and spring from the head. Put the head back on the bolt body, and replace the toggle pin. Reinstall the firing pin assembly, but not the cocking sleeve (the sheet metal tube with the toothed end) - that keeps the toggle from falling out when you rotate the bolt. Put the handle back on, and snug down the BAS. Do NOT put the rear baffle back on.

The bolt should drop like a stone, with a 'THUNK!!!' now that you have removed any and all resistance from springs, etc.

The process sounds harder than it actually is, once you've done it maybe twice. One of those automotive magnetic parts trays helps immensely. Removing the ejector still takes longer than all the rest combined.

Sure they will, once it is completely disassembled and then put half way back together. Nowhere near as easy as it is made to look in any of the videos.

I have disassembled both old version and new versions of Savage bolts. Have replaced firing pins, extractors, ejectors and bolt heads. All of which is time consuming and can be a royale PITA.

I have since moved to the Cortina Method of seating, using the bolt then moving back.

Yep, it is a real PITA to do it with a Savage, but, it does work. And, I did forget to put the bare firing pin back in one time. The bolt head pin fell and locked up the action. Took a lot of dancing and shaking to get it back in far enough to remove the bolt. That was a close call. :)

God I pulled that move one time. Won’t do it again
