Toasted Barrel at 750 Rounds

Here is what it looked like wet patching, 10 brush strokes and two more patches. Did this twice. Still a mess as far as I am concerned.

I just watched a Brian Litz video where he states a 1/2" gun can win if the operator can drive.
So was that your best load from new barrel with the same CBTO, or did you adjust seating depth to match throat erosion?

Same load with old cleaned barrel. I adjusted seating depth for the erosion.

Might try a little JB's Bore Paste on an patch over a jag, after a good soak and brushing with CLP. This has worked well for me on some old surplus rifles that had been fed a steady diet of corrosive ammunition, then packed away for decades without a proper cleaning first.

Looks like your barrel just needs some elbow grease and time to get it shooting well, again.

I do not see anything out of the ordinary as far as fouling goes after the 21 shots.
Looks like the barrel will hold at least around .5 moa if the driver shows up. Are you annealing? What is your Es?

Honestly, I had similar issues with a factory .260 Rem Savage barrel (though tooling marks were not so extreme). I spent a couple years wasting bullets and powder. Switched to a custom PacNor 6mmbr. That rifle went from 0.7s with lots of flyers, to shooting in the twos. My success with that barrel inspired me to create 6mmBR.com, and that's why we're all here on this Forum today, 16 years later.

Lesson: Life is short. Get rid of crappy barrels. You're losing money in the long run.

And I thank you very much for that.

Thank you for testing after your serious cleaning, I think it really gave resolution to this thread. But I agree, it''s now time to move on. Install your new barrel and get back to shooting and enjoying your days at the range. THANKS!

Been out several times with the the new Critorian barrel on. Approximately 100 rounds now. Nothing in the .1 but several in the .2 range. Everything is under .5 moa out to 300 yards. It sure cleans up nice. I ran 50 rounds through it shooting 3 shot groups before cleaning. I have attached a couple before and after cleaning photos. There was a lot more carbon and copper down the second have of the barrel. Don't know why.
