Tinnitus sucks

Like several people here, years of unprotected hearing during my young-n-dumb days has left me with endless ringing in the ears. Regrets, regrets...

Medical science says it’s an incurable condition. That said, I’ve conquered other maladies with natural/alternative/voodoo remedies. Has anyone here tried a treatment (alternative or otherwise) that gave any relief?

Wish I could tell you "yes", but ever since returning from 'Nam, and experienced Navel gunfire up close and personal, it's been a constant companion since returning to 'the world'. The VA compensates for this, but it's no real help for the condition, it's just something I've learned to live with.

I'd be interested to see if anyone else has the magic remedy......

Don't want to dash your hopes but in my case my 30 years in foundries, and 15 years teaching intro welding ( should be named intro to chipping and grinding, for the first few weeks of the course!) gave me the onset of tinnitus at age 50. Now, at almost 73, the background noise is "normal" and I usually don't notice it.

If you find a holistic or homeopathic cure please share it. Many of us are dealing with it in spite of using hearing protection for 70-80% of our exposure to harmful noise levels.

And yes, I am a prime candidate for hearing aids but that is another self induced problem.

I keep the music up REAL LOUD, that way I can't hear it so good.....SAY WHAT..

I have it to a slight but not aggravating degree but it is intermittent in that it can be an aggravation, when that happens I try humming to match the pitch & volume.

Never tried humming.. I don't know what my wife would hate more, me humming or saying huh all the time. I did try a herbal/voodoo/homeopathic bottle of something once. Wasn't cheap as I recall, had a money back guarantee. I sent all the required items back for my refund and never saw a dime. Yeah, and I still have my ring.

I'm sure if there was some sure fire cure for tinnitus I'm sure it'd be well known. Interestingly, as I have an affinity for the sciences and keep an eye for the latest things, I saw a report relating to CRISPR (the new and effective gene editing technology) that looks like it may help sometime in the near future where it'll helps grow back the Cilia in the Cochlea, which is where we loose our hearing from sound damage (I've got moderate hearing loss and loud tinnitus). Unfortunately for me, I'm at an age where there's not much time left . . . so I doubt I'll be around if or when this technology proves to work for this. It's pretty exciting technology for the future though.

Ear protection did not work for me. Co worker 50' away from me using an air hammer many times a day. I had ear protection on always. I often noticed when he was hammering, the corner of my jaw seamed to tingle and was uncomfortable.

Well the uncomfortable feeling in my jaw was the sound striking it and causing hearing damage. Now my left ear, the one that was facing him is 85% deaf. Tinnitus in both ears.

If I had a nickel for every time I have to say WHAT or HUH I would be a millionaire.

Tinnitus is nerve damage.

My wife nagged me long enough for always saying WHAT or HUH and I finally went in to the VA and they gave me a nice set of aids. No more WHAT or HUHing. . . not when I have them on anyway.

When I was in Nam I worked in the Army aircraft repair hangers with pneumatic rivet guns and using NO protection. Talk about dumb.

I've got loud ringing in my ears right now as we speak! But, because it's there all the time I don't notice it until you mention it. Some days, it's louder then others. However, I still have excellent hearing, and so I guess I'm much better off then a lot of you guys.

I was a stupid kid and use to always hammer a roll of red paper caps all at one time. Put on some ear plugs, try that, and tell me if you think it's loud. Now I'm a genius and use guns to make noise but wear muffs. LOL

I've dealt with it for decades..... one thing I know for fact is nicotine and caffeine intake increase the intensity. That fact was confirmed years ago by a trusted audiologist.

I have it. It got way worse and different pitches when I got shingles this year in my face. It affected my facial, acoustic and optic nerves.
