I think Ronnie advertised his bullet as a 7 3/4, but when comparing them to bullets such as Randy’s 112, I think they were closer to 8.

Jim Moore has Ronnie’s 30 caliber Dies that he made his 112’s on,

Guys, how do you determine the exact inner diameter of the die(core seating and/or point up) ?
Could pressing a piece of pure lead be a way?

The Die ID is determined by the Die Maker, and is what it is.

Now, how much lube, and how much core seat pressure you give determines the size of the core seated jacket.

A while back, I found out I was stretching the jacket a little too much. So, I modified my core seat to where with a VERY SMALL amount of lube, the core seated jacket was coming out with a certain “feel” out of the Die. This happens to also be really close to the exact same size as the pointed up bullet with the amount of lube I use during the point up, resulting in the best bullets we have made, judging by mine and Ed's success in Matches.

I tried that “point up” thing where the core seated jacket is smaller than the pointed up bullet, the bullets shot like cr-p. I also tried the lubed core thing with the 30’s, as it worked really great with my 6mm 68 grn BT. The 30’s shot terrible.

I really believe every bullet maker kinda develops his own ideas after a while. You get a set of Dies that are top notch, garner as much info as you can from some of the real masters, and then be willing to try a few of your own ideas.

Trial and error in the process of the bullet making, and confirmation at the range is what I have settled in too.

Never tried lead...might work. I seat a core with very light light pressure and measure the jacket O.D. Then repeat with more core seating pressure. And again. At some point, the jacket diameter will stabilize at certain diameter no matter how much seating pressure is used.

Intentionally popping a jacket works too. Have a roll or three of Charmin handy.

Do different hardnesses and thicknesses of the jackets ( same caliber and length, different brand) interfere with the pressure required for the core-seated bullet to perfectly copy the die profile? I'm referring mainly to the case of boat tail bullets.

Do you treat them differently?

Regarding popping a jacket, I've done that too, although unintentionally...
