Time to level up.

Whatever your particular style is there is more than likely a maker here that can fit you up well in a made to order rifle or shotgun. Butch beat me to it and he can recommend some very good ones. American pattern rifles are some of the best available using what ever action you wish. Good wood and metal work is not cheap but some of the best anywhere are right here in country.

What I don't want is a warmed over Mauser. After that, the idea of a straight pull really tickles my pickle but it's not the be all end all. I'm really starting to warm up on the notion of the AI ASR. Then I have only 1 rifle scope to deal with. The ASR in 6SLR, 6.5CM, .308win, 300NM and 338NM. That would handle pretty much all of my shooting needs except for a lightweight hiking rifle which I could just as easily deal with with a Sako 85 in 6.5x55AI.

So you are not after DG?

Of those you listed, the Blaser R8 has a fairly good following, Rigby also is well respected. A little lower on the price scale but still nice rifles nonetheless are the Anschutz center fires. They recently introduced a 300 WM, perfect for plains game.

For me moving up meant buying a Cooper. It all depends on budget and use. I have had 8 Coopers to date and use all of them in the field, I don't shoot competition. I didn't go crazy with wood grade as I knew I would be using them. Works for me.

A small caliber.

What's the story on this guy? The way the bolt sits so tight to the stock is really nice looking. Looks like it's maybe based on a M70. That's right there with what I'd like as a walking around rifle.
This is an old MiniX Mauser. I bought it about 30 yrs ago as a barreled action in 7.62x39. I initially re barrelled it in 270x39AI, basically a 270 PPC. It was a great young person's deer rifle. I purchased a 220 Russian "220Beggs" reamer and made it a nice little shooter. It has a real nice piece of walnut from Roger Vardy in Australia. James Anderson made a very few sets of bottom metal and 3 pos safeties for them. Dean Zollinger carved the wood.

This looks special.
