Tikka T3X Varmint 22-250 vs Remington 700 Varmint Stainless ADL 22-250

did the vmax 75 outperform the previous 85 Sierra?
The differences were insignificant on paper.

However, I prefer the 85 Sierra BTHP as an all-round (varmint/predator/deer) bullet probably because I have so much positive experience with this bullet. However, they have been impossible to find, at least for me. Since I don't hunt deer anymore, the 75 Vmax will meet my needs quite well especially with the fine accuracy (.466) I was able to achieve with Varget.

I'm more of a Remington guy, due to popularity of components, but my experience with Tikka is that they shoot better out of the box.
I have BOTH, there's nothing wrong with, the Older ( 1970- 1980's ) Remington's that, a Few Benjamen's won't ,. cure ( Glass Bed/ Free float, Timney / Jewell, Trigger, etc. ). I modify My Tikka's for,. ONE,.. Benjamen !

Lefty,
So what did you buy for one Benjamin to upgrade the Tikka?
Bought some, .093 thick Kydex for, a Cheek rest with, Velcro straps, thru slots ( Homemade from, watching YouTube Vids ). ( 2 ) An Elay Precision Trigger spring for my 6.5 Creed used for, Target / Varmints and, set Trigger to about, 1.25 Pounds ( For Big Game Hunting on my .270 WSM, I went with an Ernie the Gunsmith,= a slightly Heavier sprg ). (3) a LimbSaver recoil Pad,.. That's, IT !

Great ideas. You wouldn't live neat St. Maries would you?

What do you think about Remington's new Alpha 1? in 22/250
I was not familiar with it, so I went looking. I liked the new features. I didn't find any testimonials related to accuracy, but I doubt it would be less accurate than previous 700's. From what I did see, I think it would be a good choice, but I might have to wait for my income tax refund to come up with the sizeable pile of $,$$$.$$.

No,. I live in, the Southern Part of, the State, on the Desert edge of, Boise.
I'm close to, wide open Spaces for,. Target and Varmint shooting.
I've done, the listed "Mod's" to, 3 Tikka's, in last couple of years and they all shoot, very good.
I do Open up the Barrel channels a little Bit so that, they don't Rub when shooting with Bi-Pods.
Some Early Tikka's, had Aluminum Recoil Lugs, so watch out for that, IF buying, an Older Rifle.
I buy the T-3, SS, Lite Rifles without, the lighter Fluted Barrels as they seem to,.. Group Better and deliver, very little POI shifts, when doing, "Cold Bore", shooting Tests.

I lived in Weiser for a time when I was young. That's great country. When I wasn't in the office, I was out hunting ducks, chucks, yotes, badgers, jack rabbits, (and girls of course). My buddy, Chet Hicks owned an airplane and a tavern....those were the days lol.

I also opened the barrel channels. On one of them I bedded the lug into the stock and the front of the action. I didn't see any change on target. I also put the lite into the bravo chassis to see if it made a difference. I didn't really see any difference on target with that either.

I own 2 custom rifles built on Tikka actions. Both have the factory trigger. I just sold a T3 sporter in 223 that shot really well - I sighted in an old scope for the guy..and was in 2 minds to keep the gun...I love the looks and design of Remingtons, but have never had much success (so far) - but I do have an action in the cupboard, so I may try again - maybe a 6xc or 6mm-250.

Tikka all the way. Multiple reasons for me:
1)Trigger. It was mentioned above but I’ll say it again. You won’t need to buy a trigger for the Tikka. One simple “no brain” screw to adjust. You can’t even screw it up and go too light. If you back it out all the way, it contacts the mounting bolt and prevents over adjusting. Remove a little material from that bolt where it makes contact and you can likely get a 1 - 1 1/2lb from all factory parts. No springs needed. 2lbs with no mods.
2) QC is sooooo much better on a tikka. I buy used and new Tikkas to make into my varmint guns and they all headspace the same. I can chamber a prefit barrel for any one of them and it’ll fit all of them. So you can by nice prefits too without needing a “nut”. I have Tikkas ranging over 10+ years production and they are all the same headspace. They do not need truing. If someone’s selling you shoulder work or “blueprinting” on a Tikka, they are just “up-selling” you work you don’t need. There’s no money to be made working with Tikka actions.
3) Smooth smooth cycling. No sharp edges no cut fingers etc. Guess that’s a QC thing.
4) Barrel tenon is 1.0”-16tpi. If you are a tinkerer or want to rebarrel, you can have any common 1.06-16tpi(rem threads) cut down to the Tikka’s 1.00-16tpi threads. (simple machining task). That works great for me because I shoot Prairie dogs hard sometimes and burn up barrels. I can often find a good used take off BR barrel or Rem Varmint contour barrel and reuse it on my Tikkas to save re-barrel costs. Especially since I do my own work.
5) They all shoot great. It’s difficult to find a Varmint weight Tikka that doesn’t shoot good. It’s easy to find a Remington that shoots bad.
