Lapua brass worth it for varmint guns?

I have a custom 22-250 and a 223 SPS varmint. The 22-250 shoots under 1/2 MOA with Winchester brass and I have not acquired brass for or fired the 223 yet.

I need brass for both and was trying to decide if I should go for the Lapua stuff.

Thanks for any insight.

It`s a personal choice, but i try to build everything i have from Lapua parent brass.....

Lots of good choices (wildcats) to be had using Lapua fodder...

Depends on how much you'll buy and how much you want to spend. Each of my varmint guns will usually have 1000 cases. Domestic brass (and IMI) works just fine and these guns all shoot really well. Lapua is durable well made brass. With a BR cased round there's really no choice. With other cartridges, the huge extra cost for Lapua wouldn't be worth it for me and I very seriously doubt there'd be any measurable difference in accuracy.....especially with a factory barrel/chamber. For your .223 I wouldn't bother messing with Lapua unless it's only a couple 100rds, or you don't mind the cost, or just have to have it for psychological reasons, or find a deal on it. With the 22-250, same thing......I don't think you'd see any difference in accuracy.

Ackman said it very well. Me the only varmint gun I use Lapua brass in is my 6mmbr. Everything else get US brass. I deal with thousands of casings every year for shooting PD. I cannot afford to use Lapua brass. Most of the time US brass will work good enough for almost everyone. Now if you want to get everything you can out of your gun then Lapua may be the only choice. At some point a person reaches the point of diminishing returns. This will really be up to you on this one and how you shoot.

I realise that you asked specifically about varmint guns but F Class and long range varminting have a lot in common.

Have won a number of F Class titles over the past few years using Win brass, first in a .243 and now a 6AI. Also use Win brass in .308 and .223 F/TR rifles. Have never seen any need to buy the more expensive Euro brass.

Was in a shoot-off last year for the 1000 yard title in the Ontario Championships using Win brass. Placed second which was a wind reading error on my part, nothing to do with the brass.

To shoot the Provincials and Nationals in August, have to put together 500 rounds in a short period of time. This doesn`t include the practise and competiton ammo in April, May, June, July. As has been stated earlier in this thread, cost becomes a big factor when you are operating on this level.

The human mind is a funny thing. If you think you will do better with more expensive brass, you probably will. I have complete confidence in the cheaper North American brass and do not feel I am at any disadvantage. Am firmly convinced in my mind that wind reading errors have far more effect on scores than the make of brass you are using.

I burn up a lot of .284 Winchester brass in a lot of different calibers and never saw the need to go to Lapua brass other than for my BR's... You can toss half the bagged brass while sorting it and still be ahead money wise, and it will shoot as good....
