Threading Attempt #2

Just started using full profile inserts for most applications and I'm not looking back...
No more wires, gauges etc.
Turn the major OD to spec with the insert, PD and thread form is always perfect.

For sure something for me to consider in the future. I’m trying to learn the “hard” way first so I can appreciate the easier way down the road.
FWIW, the long soak in PB Blaster did the trick. Lathe works. I for sure need practice and will be grabbing some steel blanks in the very near future. But for now I have scrap aluminum. This is attempt #3. I merely practiced making a thread. Next one, on steel, I will turn to dimension. I hope.

You should still use wires. I find that some full-profile inserts run a little tight. They tend to take a bit more off of the OD to get the same pitch diameter, so if you cut to an OD, the actual pitch diameter will be a bit on the plus side and possibly bind.

If for no other reason, you should measure over wires and keep it for your records.

Good point, Gene, thanks
I did check the first time (of course), but hadn't thought that there were likely gonna be variations-esp by manufacturer. Whenever using a diff manuf, or thread pitch, I'll check PD against my OD to see how they "run".
