Thoughts on using 2 screws for 3 screw target action

Thoughts on running a 3 screw 4.41 with only 2 screw 4.41 stock. I did this for a bit seemed to work fine. Got a hit on a nice br stock this morning 2 screw. Thanks for opinions

I, too, use two screws (front and middle) depending upon the stock and action. I shoot Winchester post-64 actions on three rifles (just happened, did not plan it). One gun shoots better with two, others are tuned using the rear-most screw with the forward two set to 45 in.Ib., rear about 25 in.Ib..

As long as you use the furthest forward and the one that goes through the trigger guard you will have no issues. Front screw is usually 10 inch pounds more than the rear, then tune from there.
Go to www.SavageShooters.com and do a search. You should get a few hits with some pretty good info.
I run mostly Savage rifles with one exception and have done my own testing and I found that 2 screws work just as good as 3.

This doesn't answer your question however here's what you can wind up with when you don't get a ruler and measure! Not pretty but quite accurate. Lesson learned quite some time ago. Model age and all the written info is not reliable. at all. Your ruler is.

Timely topic I just posed the same question to Fuj via PM. Full speed ahead. :)
It even gets better if you order an action only. Left port right bolt target action it doesn't matter, serial number's are useless, you have to measure your self. And it only takes a grade school wooden ruler!
This is a real rabbit hole if you don't. Fortunately I wound up making it work but who wants that mess. The rifle shoots in the 2's regularly and I've banged a few in the 1's
Personnel best with this. Good thing is on the bench no one sees it. But if I shoot a great group you always have a few that wish to look at the rifle. Id like to glue a great target over that mess!!

Did'nt get the PM yet but here's my advice. On a stock with a mag well,
I bolt in a aluminum bolt then transfer the center screw. Blind mag stocks
like Choate, I bed the block in epoxy then transfer to that. I do not use
just the 2 screws because of the weight involved with 30 inch heavy
barrels. The front screw on a Savage does not have a lot of threads.
and for this reason I always include using the center screw. Peace of mind
with all that weight hanging out there, and shooting heavier wild cat loads.
Did a BR build on a MDT Oryx with my real short 284 Winchester cat. You
can see the screws holding the block in place in the mag well.
