this glove thing...?

The right type of gloves offers a better purchase on the gun. Nor were we wearing $200.00 Oakley sunglasses.

Some Olympians wear gloves as do some clay bird shooters. I think it boils down to personal preference.

What's up with the gloves? I have looked thru a few shooting magazines (Recoil & Survival come to mind), and every person has a build like Arnold, 20-50% tat coverage, and wears shooting gloves firing an AR.

Three tours in RVN, and I never once saw anybody wearing gloves while shooting.

If the magazines are depicting GIs then the gloves do make sense. If you think about the environment our folks are in (urban to mountains), gloves are usually worn for a few different reasons. If they are wearing them they need to train with them.

Good shooting

Studies have shown that young men of today have substantially lower grip strength than adult males of twenty to fifty years ago. That may explain the need for gloves.

Heavy tat coverage is obviously permanent camouflage.

Having a build like Arnold is simply an aid in picking up chicks, or guys who are attracted to the Arnold physique. :p jd

Staying in good shape has always been important, even more so as you get older. No that doesn't mean you must press 400lbs, it does mean keeping your muscle tone may help keep from breaking a hip etc. This morning it's 18 degrees here in town and that puts it at probably 0 at our range with ice and snow, yep we still go out and shoot, and we do wear gloves. As for tats, well whats cool now may not be in 20yrs. but it will still be there. Now please excuse me, i have to try and find my 60 gram shooting gloves.

Well then, now we know where the mall ninja's get their both their fashion and body art ideas. Can you imagine going into combat without gloves and the proper quantity and coverage of tats and a build less than Arnold's and more like Barney Fife? Oh the horror!

(Two tours in RVN, saw a lot of tats, but gloves......not so much.)

The “tacticool” scene has taken over. In AFG and IRQ we wear gloves and eye pro strictly for protection. It doesn’t enhance anything. More of a pain in the ass than anything else. Gloves stop burns and can mitigate scratches, cuts, and stop dirt/debris from hurting your hands. I had to cut the finger tips off of mine so I could type and send up reports on my computer during missions. These magazines have authors and editors who think it looks cool but probably never had to wear them.

A nice set of Oakley’s is a different story though. Stops the bright sun, provides ballistic protection, and if you got certain lenses could help highlight certain features.

Speaking of recoil, off grid, survival magazines,etc...they use covers like this a lot too. Me, personally, like them more than some SF wanna be magazine cover. Sad part is I don’t think women like this actually exist. Welcome to the new age of marketing and photoshop, gents.

RVN vs anywhere in the cat litter box.
RVN was hot wet and sticky according to stories I've heard from the vets that were there. Also subject to down pours of rain like we have here in FL.

It seems to me gloves would be a liability.

The cat litter box is infested with rocks, debris, constantly changing conditions and that fucking sand will suck the moisture and oils from your skin.
Take a fall or even minor slip in a rock infested area and you'll be one happy mofo if you have gloves on.
Anyone who has side-hilled a shale slope will understand this. Same with people around ID, OR and eastern WA that traverse lava lands.

The gloves help you hold onto your things when your skin is so dry it's like cracked wax paper.

The only truly tacticool gloves have the plastic knuckles... ;^)
