Thinking about retiring in Jackpot Nevada ?

I think you need to go and take a look. It most likely will be your first and last. I go through there a few times a year and would never consider it a place to live. The best thing about Jackpot is that you can only go up from there!

If you're looking for seclusion, you might try Dickshooter, ID. Nice and quiet there, they were never able to grow the population for some reason....LOL
I have spent time in both places. Dickshooter by far has the better name and neighbors.
To the OP. Twin Falls is likely a better option than jackpot. Or Ely, NV. The issue of Weather being better might not be as awesome as you would like in Jackpot. It's plenty cold and can be nasty all winter. It is high desert. But it does offer nice access to fishing and hunting.

Go further south. Phoenix has 3 really good ranges and a lake for fishing. A little warm in the summer (115). Wickenburgh a little ways outside of Phoenix but still close to shooting (Ben Avery) and fishing. Or Lake Havasu City. Good fishing and a really nice range for rifle/pistol/trap/5stand and skeet with weekly comps for rifle. A little more costly to buy a home than NV, but all the amenities. No snow is the best part.

OP - Do a little more reading on Jackpot

Some advice from an old Idaho boy.

Its only reason for Jackpot's existance is to draw southern Idaho gamblers, most of the residents are dealers, cocktail waitresses, and others associated with the gambling industry, mainly the other residents consist of hotel maids and people needed by the service industry.
I am sure there are some decent folks living there but having known a few folks involved in the gambling industry most are a little on the shady side.

Oh yes, I almost forgot to mention - winter storms can be tough there.

Elko IMO would be a better choice but it is not exactly paradise either.

My recollection of the place is similar to Praveen's... not sure I've ever driven thru there in the day time ;)

FWIW, I'd probably think more along the lines of a little closer to Twin Falls, ID - not that Jackpot NV is that far away.

Just my opinion here say take it for what you will.... If you're going to move out in the country away from big cities , move WAY out in the country way AWAY from big cities... 30-50 miles isn't far enough because the cities will be knocking on your door in 15 years.. It only took 13 years for Austin TX to be knocking on my door 35 miles away... If I move again before I die it will be in the middle of nowhere for sure...
