There Goes Our No Tax on Suppressors

The Parliamentarian was following the Byrd rule. Reconciliation bills aren't suppose to include non budget items. The House should have known it, probably did and intended this outcome. Possibly to get a replacement for MacDonough ?

When you complain about anyone elected to the Fed Govt and you have voted for any of those other than their freshman year........you are the problem. Insanity.....Keep doing the same thing and expecting different results. If it wasn't so sad it would be funny. Oh, spplies to state elected officials also. Yes they are ALL cowards.

Perhaps more wishful thinking on my part, but since the fee on suppressors is called a tax, wouldn't that be part of the budget? Calling the "affordable care act" bill a tax is how the Supreme Court justified its existence. That and Justice Roberts. Taxes can be written into, or out of, the budget. Yes, she may be canned, but it's probably a little late to help us. Personally, I am not nor ever have been a fan of Thune. He is only a very slight improvement over the Turtle. I wish the Senate had made a better choice. There are those in there that would have had the intestinal fortitude to overrule the parlimentarian.

As I read it, the Parliamentarian serves an advisory role and that advice can be, and has been, ignored. Then I read this.......
What is the Parliamentarian’s Role in Budget Reconciliation?

Budget reconciliation is a legislative procedure created by the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974 that allows for expeditated consideration of changes in law to align spending, revenue, and the debt limit with agreed-upon budget targets. Reconciliation is one of the “expedited procedural statutes” referenced above and means that the measure is not subject to stalling procedural tactics or a filibuster.

Under these procedures, the parliamentarian evaluates policy proposals to determine whether they comply with the constraints of the Byrd Rule and other unique procedures that guide the reconciliation process. It is important to remember that here, like with other procedural questions, the parliamentarian provides advice on what is allowed or not under existing rules and precedents. What is acceptable policy under the reconciliation process is a matter for senators themselves to decide.

I'm amazed that in the US, given the litigiousness, an enterprising lawyer hasn't gone down the health and safety route. Suppressors are so much more pleasant to shoot. I imagine most deciding on the subject have never even been near one in actual use.

Taxes, in my opinion, should be reasonable. $200 is as much as 20-25% depending on the model. In some cases even more. That isn’t reasonable….

As an accessory, they shouldn’t be taxed any more than any other commercially sold item, nor should they be even classified the way they are.

They should work to end the $200 tax. Flat tax them on the federal level at 3%, remove them from the NFA, and sell them in front of the counter, not behind it, like every other commercially produced accessory.

Kinda makes you wonder if this wasn’t in the play book all along, huh? What happened to the National Concealed Carry provision, another apple they dangled in front of us?

They tax your income 20 something percent unless you’re more fortunate and then they tax your income 30 something percent. Then you’re taxed again when you spend it. I hate it all but I love my country and if that’s what it costs to be here I’ll just shrug and pay it. It all has to be factored into the calculation used to value my contribution to society for my labor of work. As far as I can tell, the registration paperwork is all that’s required to be shown with ownership of the NFA item. I can’t find where it’s required to show them the item. Of course if they see the item, then you should have the proper documentation available to prove you can possess it. I can’t find that you have to let them see the suppressor if they cross your path.
