There Goes Our No Tax on Suppressors

As it stands, the next fight has already started.

Gun Owners of America, along with Palmetto State, FRAC, Silencer Shop, and B&T have filed a lawsuit to challenge the NFA as unconstitutional now that the tax has been removed.

Additionally, the American Suppressor Association has put out a statement that it is also going to file a lawsuit to challenge the NFA as well. Their partners are the NRA, the FPC, and the 2nd Amendment Foundation.

Please consider supporting one or more of these organizations (except the NRA, screw those turds).

The tax went into the General Fund. The ATF didn't keep that money and the number of agents wasn't dependent on it.

It is more likely that the recommendations from DOGE will gut the ATF and that will slow stuff down again.

If suppressors are ever removed from such scrutiny and available as any other firearms accessory, the ATF will not be involved in the process.

One advantage a $0 NFA tax will create is a used market for suppressors. A dealer with an SOT could always trade in suppressors but the $200 would apply each time one is sold on a form 4. I wish the $500 a year tax for a dealer’s SOT would go away as well.

HandgunHTR, that document is interesting, and enlightening, Sir.
May have to forward it to SC for their comment.

I agree, and also, I don't know about all the other states, but in Wi you could sell to another resident. You just keep it in your possession until the buyer pays the fee and clears a background check, then hand it over to him. With the no tax fee, it will open up the used market.

currently only a dealer with an SOT can process a form 4 (NFA background, pictures and fingerprints)

If you are selling your can to someone from out of state, yes. In state, no.

When you complain about anyone elected to the Fed Govt and you have voted for any of those other than their freshman year........you are the problem. Insanity.....Keep doing the same thing and expecting different results. If it wasn't so sad it would be funny. Oh, applies to state elected officials also. Yes they are ALL cowards.
If you keep doing what you have alway done.. You will get what you have always gotten…

Effective January 1, 2026.

Correct. I am hoping that they just cave and start the $0 stamps now. There is already a precedence for this when they suspended the tax so everyone could register their ARs with pistol braces as SBRs (not to change the subject, but I bet those folks feel pretty dumb now).

I, too, am on SS. I was a bit miffed at the failure to eliminate the tax on that income. I paid that SS tax throughout 39 years of employment, and now pay a tax on what it yields, and yet more tax when I spend it?!?
Insanity.
I'm with You, I paid for 45 years. And now people call it Entitlement. Call it what you want. The blue collar worker can't put a million dollars in a 401k or savings, well at least I couldn't.
The suppressor RIP off that has been going on, is a Joke. Government stealing more money from us, And the Suppressor companies stealing all so, but they call it PROFIT.
Outside of this Country, they are saleing
Suppressor for 100.00 to 250.00 and they do the same thing as the 1000.00 to 2000.00 dollar one you all buy.
ONLY IN AMERICA.

To be completely fair, a lot of the suppressors that are sold in Nordic and Central European countries are pretty crap compared to what we get over here. A lot of them over there are aluminum and don't last for more than about 2-300 rounds. Not a problem for most as they don't shoot nearly as much as your average American and since they are not that expensive they can replace them much easier.

I don't have any personal experience with the ones in New Zealand, Australia, or South Africa, but based on what I see on the internet, they seem to be a bit more robust, but I would suspect they cost a few more bucks too.

The ones in NZ are the “real deal”.. OZstralia too, though “Unobtainium” except for those few that are “Licensed Feral Pest Control Shooters”…. {:~(
At least in NZ they are available to the general public…
I would gladly pay $200 for a permit to own one…!!!
What is a one off $200 compared to the general ongoing cost of shooting?
