The Ultimate Coyote Gun

Might be a little off topic but what exactly do yall do with the coyotes after you kill them? I've killed my share but have never done anything with them once there dead. The landowner has taken them a few times but normally just toss them out. Do you skin them them and have the furs tanned?

I use to take my coyotes to a fur buyer, and several years ago I got $20 a piece for them. Now they're worth maybe five dollars. So I just leave them just about where I shoot them. I'm ramping up my destructive technology, and going with 90 grain Sierra hollow points in my 270 Winchester. I've only shot one so far with this load, and the results weren't as spectacularly gory as I was anticipating. I guess that's a good thing. He did manage to run 20 yards with a shot right in the boiler room though.

I will just let them be in a field but a plowed field I will move them to a fence line.

I've had five of the six calibers you mentioned. My favorite was 243AI w/70grn Nosler BT. It was a real thumper but not good for fur. We shot them for herd protection and just left em were they layed. If your into fur go with one of the 20 cal. variants, turns insides to mush and usually no exit

Can't leave 'em lay anymore. They'll be worth maybe 20$ this year--

Ive shot the 22-250 and the 22-250ai at coyotes. I shoot the 1365 sierra out of both and get small exit holes that don't need sewing most of the time and bang flop dead. My buddy just shot a yote at 567 yrds with his 22-250 that i load for. It spun for a few seconds but dropped dead. I load both cartridges hot, 3750fps out of the 22-250 and 4100fps out of the ai version. Coyotes don't have a chance and are very easy on pelts.

The .243 crowd who wants to save pelts, try the 69g berger. I've seen good luck saving pelts with that bullet.

I spit my coffee all over my keyboard when I saw that pic. here is my 1975 Remmy 700 in 22-250 UN fired with original Redfield 6 X 18 scope.

My brother has one very similar to that. Had a timney trigger installed. The factory one failed. Nice, smooth rig.

Like I said it is unfired but that would change if ever I got the chance to go on a Prairie Dog hunt, I have never been on one but hope to some day. If only I could only get rid of my kids they just won't go away,
there like stray cats I fed them once, and now I am screwed and stuck with them.:eek:o_O

We some times sell our coyotes whole to a fur buyer and some times will skin them out. For the whole carcass this winter we were getting $30.00, for skinned, sewn, stretched and dried we are getting $60.00 for winter pelts.
Our fur buyer is also a friend and hunts with our group now with his daughter.

My favorite coyote rig. Ruger 77 - 220 Swift, Simmons 6x18 scope with my home made sun shade.

We save some of the meat from young ones for our own use and the older ones get boned cooked in a big old hog kettle and ground for dog food/meat.

Summer pelts are not worth any thing so we just make sure they are out of the farmers way, in the fields and will not stink up their home or yard while decomposing.

We rarely get shots over 200 yards in this area, most of us try to work the calls & decoys to get them closer than 200 yards.
