The state of Oregon

I would have to believe for the states to take it on themselves to do firearms sales determinations and back ground checks they have to have a good reason. And I dont think its to keep the Feds out of our business.
I think States want to limit more buyers than the Feds do and generally stick there nose more into whats going on. They are also probably putting all this info in a database so they are basically registering all guns sold that paperwork is done on.
I agree with that 100 percent , great way to monitor the "Locals" .

Just picked up a shiny new in the box Ruger #1-S-C today, transferred here into sunny Portlandia Orygun from Oklahoma City.
Submitted the background check last Thursday and it cleared this morning.

I need to say also that Oregon has a background check list that has been and still is right at a 4000 to 5000 backlog on doing checks, they have had it down to a few hundred a few times but the average for months now has been around 4000 checks at any one time. I would guess that covid-19 has something to do with that.
The only thing i can really say is that for the most part they are still very polite if by chance you should get through to someone, but some are getting frustrated. I would have pulled what little hair out i still have a long time ago.

We transferred a firearm to a close friend a few weeks ago. Backlog was 2500 applications. Firearm cleared in 4 days.

I live in Oregon and have been through this. It is total BS. Every time I buy a firearm I'm freaked out on being pended. Some dealers will release the weapon to you after 3 days, most will not.

I worked at a pawnshop several years ago and when they delayed
a person, they had 3 days to call back with a response 1 way of
the other. After 3 days, they could pick up their gun. Laws may
have changed since but that was how it was then. If you got denied, a trooper would show up at your house the next day.

No change here in Va.! I just 'sailed' through a background check last week, even after having been the victim of ID theft 7 years back. Once you clear NCIC, you're good to go.

To the OP - do Oregon residents not go through NCIC each time they buy a firearm? I'm confused because your post makes it sound as if they go through it every five years, not at every purchase.

As to the voting power - we're experiencing some of the same issues here in Va. We've had in influx of people from northern states, leaving those states because of a lack of jobs, high taxes, etc. They have moved here, yet kept the same voting habits they had, and after 15-20 years of this, we are beginning to see a shift in the political spectrum.

When I was dragged here kicking and screaming by my parents in '86, Va. was blood red. It stayed that way through the late '90's. Sometime around Y2K, it shifted, and became bluer in spots. It is now solidly blue in the northern part, with spots in the Tidewater, and Richmond areas.

Yes they do go through the feds background as well the Oregon state police background and if Oregon can find another background we will probably have to go through it as well. As has been said many times before Oregon is a Dem state which explains all the riots, murders and just plain stupidity that goes on here every single day.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the mayor of Portland ( A democrat) did not want the President to send in help, even if it Fed officers or troops, because more LE would cause more trouble, yet now she is going to, in her new plan, bring in State Police and other LE to help local LE stop the violence, she allowed to start in the first place. What sort of plan is that, lady ?

It's part of the 19 point plan that is very difficult to implement quickly. After all the criminals have to change their behavior since we (mayor) are not enforcing state law, and residents have to understand they really don't own anything, so why does the city have to protect property.

I went to an auction a couple years ago and won the rifle I came for very early on. Went into an office to do the check and waited for a gal to finish hers. She handed it to the guy who asked her which gun behind him was hers...turns out she filled out the form with her husbands info, hadn't won anything, and 'just wanted to know if he'd pass the background check before they went out to start bidding'.
