The Proper Response-Get Rid of the Guns

My continued prayers are made for the families in Uvalde.

As those that cherish our right to bear arms, we should feel obligated to provide a proper rational response to addressing this tragedy. It is appalling to here the number of people calling to ban guns as a fix for this situation. This claim is nothing more than a useless and irrational appeal to emotion. Yet, we have to be careful and empathetic in how we respond.

First, it is impossible to disarm the citizens in our country from guns that they legally purchased and own. Second, mentally ill, sick or evil people will do the unthinkable or evil acts, whether by use of guns, bombs, cars, or any other means they choose to use. Taking law abiding citizen’s guns will not change this fact.

We should redirect this conversation to focus on what we as a society are doing to deal with these sick or evil people. Clearly, we have to do more.

And, pointing the finger at the police for not running in fast enough is short sited. Truth is that we do not properly select and train our law enforcement servants to deal with this situation. Not every person is cut out to charge head first into an active shooter situation and take on gunfire. (Being on the SWAT or TAC team does not change this fact.) It is all too easy to criticize those that don’t, when we do not do due diligence to get the answer to this question before the time of truth. In addition to not properly selecting or training our law enforcement personnel, we do not pay the ones that we are asking to do this fair wages. One would have to be a fool to expect any different response with this type of inadequate preparation. (I was actually thinking piss poor half ass preparation.)

Yet, if we as law abiding citizens do not properly direct the focus, we will continue to hear the and reap the consequences of the irrational appeal to emotion, “if the assault weapons ban had continued, and we get rid of these guns, then all of these killings would not be happening.”

When an incident like this occurs there is always that group that will blame whatever their sick emotions dictate. Society will always deal with it no matter how many guns are bought, sold, or taken. But, seemingly these events tend to crop up just prior to an event such as the NRA was doing. Not to make it political by any means but the truth must be spoken.

My continued prayers for the families in Uvalde as well.

Inclined to agree with your analysis, but you may need to clarify;
“First, it is impossible to disarm the citizens in our country from guns that they legally purchased and own.”
If that is impossible, it would seem we have little to be concerned about.

I watched some of the “News” shows today. They’re off to the races, that’s for sure. It’s just sad watching these people practically frothing at the mouth.
Mercy, tolerance, kindness are only words to a Marxist. Everything they say, everything they do, every move they make is about total control and domination.
If you don’t believe me, just ask Trotsky, Stalin, Mao, Castro or...Old Scratch himself. That is, IF you can get past their armed security entourage.
If they notched their stocks, it would look like a woodpecker buffet.

I think they might be able to get the “Assault Weapons Ban” reinstated, either by executive order or other means. Their next move would be to try to get a buy back program thru, like they did in Australia. (They did an interview with the Aussie Prime Minister and he lauded the benefits. No wonder why they aired that.)
If they somehow manage to get that passed, there’s going to be BIG trouble. I hope they don’t try it, but it’s hard to predict “crazy”!

Mitch McConnell stated he'd be willing to work with Schumer to put a bill through. Knee jerk reactions are always wrong. Gun control will not stop the festering wounds that are destroying America. This is straight from Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals". Our culture has been eroded by atheists and Marxists for a very long time. Marxism has even creeped into religion.
Congress' answer to every problem is another law and it always comes to the same end. It makes the situation worse.
As for the situation in Uvalde, I cannot say as I don't have enough information. Apparently wrong assessment of the situation was made and followed through on. Why would be a good question. I do pray for the victims' families of this terrible tragedy.

I think they should find out who left that door open, charge them with manslaughter and lock’em up! Maybe that will set an example!?!?
It was reported by police that a teacher propped the door open
to retrieve a cell phone. It made it convenient for the perp, but
even if the door was closed, he probably would have gone in
the front door emptying magazines.

I understand the exercise of this thread but Pandora's box has
long been open. What needs to be done will be painfull as the
views of each populace in a state does vary widely. I also believe
compromise has been lost to the ages because of hate......I have
no solution to offer.

Like you, I am not worried about my guns being taken. I just think it’s past time for us to step up and deal with this problem for real.

I agree 100 percent. There are no simple solutions, but that has never stopped us from making change. We all will end up sacrificing in the end. There must be more aggressive background checks and enforcement activity. We will pay for this financially and socially. We have got to put more emphasis into hiring and training law enforcement. There is a cost that we must pay for the training. We must provide better treatment for mentally ill and untie the hands so that those sick can be disarmed. Again, all this comes at a cost, just like it is costing us by not doing anything other than spinning a great ineffective emotional response after each tragedy.

Look at all of the money our country spends on countless things that reap little to no return and tell me we can’t do better actually addressing this problem.

In my county, local deputies pay starts out at $13.50 an hour. Zero mental health screening. Minimal training-14 or so weeks at the academy. Should I believe that they are going to properly respond to a situation like this?

Have you noticed those who scream for more gun laws are exactly those who do not enforce and prosecute the existing laws? Why? Incoming NYC DA issued a directive to only prosecute armed robbery as a misdemeanor, meaning out the door without bail; message is its no problem. Chicago currently has 90 murder suspects awaiting trial who are walking the streets with ankle bracelets. Repeat offenders. The state law was changed to minimize the charges against 18-20 year old arrestees because it was considered racist to fully prosecute them. One guy has been arrested seven times for gun violations and served only limited local jail time, guess what another recent arrest. No enforcement = No law. This could be addressed instantly. Why?

Absolutely, and overall school security has to be improved upon.

I listen to a interview with a gun violence research organization on radio this morning. They have been tracking data and doing interviews after mass shootings for some time now. There is more or less a profile for most of these shooters, and the Game Changer about the cause and frequency of these types of shooting … the motivation by the shooter is that it is a form or Suicide.

Due to internet and media these individuals are now afforded the opportunity to committee suicide while also making a name for themselves so they are remembered where in life they weren’t.

I’ll find a link to the show. Their research and eventual policy recommendations are driven by the data and not political affiliations. What can be done to reduce the chance of future occurrences and reduce loss of life. Outlawing guns wasn’t their stance - raising the age limit to 21 (brain development), properly securing guns from children, red flag, and mental health… all things I can get behind.

I think there are some additional steps that make sense to protect the public. Aggressive enforcement of current laws and background checks. Prosecution of straw purchases or attempted purchases by restricted individuals/felons, and prosecution of parents if provided access/training and also failure to notify law enforcement about potential risk.
