The old RCBS is gone

Off the shelf, I like Redding.

Consistancy and great service goes to Harrells & Whidden Gunworks, I have bushing dies from both.

LE Wilson for all my Seater Dies.

If you have the time to wait for an expensive full length masterpiece, Warner Tool Company.

Called RCBS today to get a price quote on a die set for an obsolete caliber. I was informed by Robin they dont have it, and they ‘used to have a custom die shop but it closed a long time ago’.

Tried emailing them through their website to make a formal, written, polite statement of disappointment but they dont allow enough spaces to type anything of substance.

I realized Fred Huntington aint sticking a hand written note in with orders anymore but I didnt realize they had given up on being THE reloading die company.
Agree completely... Everytime I buy RCBS I wonder how many phone calls or returns I will have to make.... The customer service is still there thank God but quality isn't in my opinion.... Just like the second post in this thread says.... ( CHINA ).... I bought RCBS first but because of them I went to Dillon and never looked back... I friend has a press that's been down years now and he just gave up and took it down because he couldn't get parts or service... It's a shotgun reloader so he just went back to MEC...

COVID really screwed up QC for almost every company.... The final nail for me was when I called rcbs a few years ago and got some lady who was the rudest B I have came across in years... Since then I have bought one thing from RCBS and it will probably be awhile longer before I need something else... It's everything though just bought a set of lee dies and ended up sending back the sizing die because it wasn't polished correctly and was scratching the crap out of that new starline brass... They of course sent me a new one but I was down for awhile waiting.... Normally I would have just bought another one to keep from being down two weeks but the prices are sooooo high now I will send stuff back and wait...

I haven't actually called RCBS/Vista for anything in I can't remember how many years. Whenever I need a part I just go to the website, put in a request with the part # if I can find it, and the part shows up in my mailbox a week or so later.

But they look like they were made in Shanghai!
No, not in Shanghai. In Guangdon Province, the industrial heartland with an economy larger than any other province in China, and the fifth largest sub-national economy in the world.

Edit: I don't believe Lee dies, or any of the brands available here, are made in China.

Not to piss in the OP or anyone else’s ear but….

It’s a business. It’s THEIR business….

You can chose to use them or not. You can chose to use a competitors business or not. You can chose to start your own business and compete against them… or not.

So far… this is still America and there isn’t a centralized government control telling a small/midsized business what they will and will not produce.

Not being ugly but it sure is hard for a business to want to help anyone with anything if their reward is to be publicly bashed online for not being everything to everyone.

:)
Great post!

Redding will make you what you want at no more cost then usual , they can use an optical comparator and then make you a die from your fired cartridge if you want.

I had to get some 30R Blaser dies, they built those in 2011, unless they had some on the shelf, they were custom build apparently though. Asked about a bushing die the next year, they said no. Maybe called cust serv there twice in 40 yrs, use lots of their stuff. I did have to use a Hornady shellholder on the handprimer, nub OD where it mounts wouldn't go thru an RCBS shellholder, Hornady was tight too. No big deal as I had on hand, but, I could see where it could PO some people who didn't have them on hand, or didn't know to try one.

Redding used to be my go to for dies. Not any more, as the prices when through the roof, and then the customer service went into the toilet. Just sad. Whidden made my last set of custom dies and they are great. Never used RCBS dies, but their customer service has been stellar on their other products.

I get to thinking about how high the prices have gotten on our loading equipment and tools, and especially components, but --consider this:

Back in the seventies when I was buying my first rifle die sets, I think the RCBS cost around ten or fifteen bucks. A gallon of gas cost around fifty cents. I rented my first place for a hundred a month. My jobs, (plural) paid from two to five bucks an hour.
A lot of those things above have increased by five or even ten times. I don't like to pay new prices for RCBS equipment, and I really don't like to think that quality has gone down. But I know the reason for it. jd

You have to realize that many companies, even in the US are now owned by Chinese interests and businessmen. Getting more so every day, plus how many also realize how much property China interests own in the USA ?
second that. I have made it a point to have zero chicom loading tools on my bench. I think I am there. Anyone else?

I've gotten pretty good customer service from RCBS in the very recent past. I bought a competition powder thrower with both the rifle and pistol drum and very quickly decided switching back and forth was a PITA. I called RCBS and they hooked me up with all the parts I needed to make two full powder throwers. The interesting part? The total price I paid for the two throwers, ended up being less than if I'd bought two originally.

Thats fine. But all my tools are made by americans in the usa working for companies not owned by chinese. But i am sure i have one thing that is not = rcbs primer tray but looking for an old one from the 70-80's. If not i'll make my own.

You would be surprised that there are many consumer pc's that are made in the usa. Some might have some parts that are made in the far east but those days are also changing thx to robotics vs offshore slave labor. Some have primary parts made in usa and assembled over there for tax reasons etc, ie macbooks. But i think the manufacturers who are forward thinking are gradually bringing all back home.

Thieves and cheats are on the top end of my hate list so that is why I am not fond of any Chinese products, and I dont like their food either.
