the dreaded 6.5 Creedmoore for F Class?

A buddy of mine just shot a 600 with 46x's at our local club match at 600yds. he used a 6.5 Creedmore  to do it. who else is using this round for F Class and whadda ya thinkn?

My F/Class rifle is a 6.5x47 Lapua, Creedmore's are great, but I have not seen too many, if any on the line!

It's called Creedmoor. He will be shooting in F-Open. There is nothing wrong with the 6.5CM; it's a fine round. It was designed for LR competition to supplant the .308Win and similar and it does a great job of that. At 1000 yards, however, the 6.5CM will be going against the slippery 7mm and heavy .30s propelled by copious amounts of smokeless powder, not the .308 Win.

The Creedmoor can win against the 7's and 300's if the driver is very good reading wind. The last match at Rattlesnake was won using a 6.5 CM in very high winds and the winners score was excellent. The key is using the high BC heavy 6.5 bullets such as the Matrix, Sierra or Hornady's. It will compete very well against the 180 grain bullets and do it with far less recoil.

A 6.5 Creed will be in F/Open class, not F/TR. Going against the badass 6’s and 6.5X47L will certainly be a chore. Just what kind of rifle/match was your buddy shooting?

F Open match at 600 yds. 3 strings, 20 for record each. high end action and barrel, high end stock, professionally built. his score speaks for itself. 600/46x

Will competing against the aforementioned cartridges with a 6.5 Creedmoor be more of a chore because it’s a Creedmoor? If it is at a disadvantage, what causes that disadvantage assuming the 6.5 Creedmoor is loaded using the best and most appropriate components?
Just trying to learn.

@swadiver, as a newbie shooter I shot a 6.5 CM over the last 2 seasons, reaching a HM ranking at both MR and LR F-Open. It is a very easy cartridge to learn with, reload, and shoot. With that said, I am graduating to a higher caliber, rechambering 2 guns into .284’s. At MR distances my 6.5 could compete just fine. Unfortunately at LR I was just giving up too much from a ballistics standpoint.

Is the shoulder angle different on the Creedmore compared to the 6.5 x 47? is a 6.5 Creedmore 6.5 x 49?

if i go that way, i would shoot only mid range F Open matches with 6.5 Creedmore, primarily 600 yds, currently i shoot a straight 6BR at mid range for F Open. no long range F Open for me.. i shoot F/TR at long range

150 sierra .713BC
2900+ fps in a 30" creedmoor

That's mighty hot for the capacity of the Creed with that 150. I would think the primer pockets would not last very many cycles. My Creedmoor barrels were only 26" but if I ran 142SMK's above 2850's I got a bit of tight bolts and pockets in small primer Lapua Palma brass were getting hammered hard. I only ran a few tests at/above 2850 fps as my gun got much better scores at 600yds running them at 2725 region.
