True, true, true! I have a 6MM Remington that the original barrel lasted 15 years, I replaced it. I then picked up a 223 Remington and did most my varminting with it, 20 years later the 6MM Remington and the 223 still have the same barrels from 20 years ago.Try one of the UrbanRifleman barrels. They are $320. Then you can just buy another one when that one wears out, and screw it on in 5 minutes and go shooting.
Ps: recently I have had more questions on barrel life than anything. People are suddenly OBSESSED with whether they will get 2000 rounds or 2500 rounds. Even more than actual performance. I've only had a few customers actually shoot barrels to the end of their life and order a replacement. Be it because people have multiple rifles, or that they don't shoot as much as they think, I don't see people grinding through barrels like pro shooters.
I am a proponent of newer cartridges like the 6MM and 22 ARC, lower pressures, higher efficiencies. Lifetime rifles for field work. Barrel wear for the varmint shooter is an issue for dog town shooters more than anything else. High pressures will shorten barrel life for any cartridges. My 358 Norm is 32 years old and the barrel still shoots like new.
