the 6mm loads

i was planing on buying a 22-250 for coyote hunting but from what i have read it looks like the 6mm loads are more acurate at longer ranges. What is the best rifle for a resonable price around $1000? what is all the work that you have to do? i know nothing about wildcating so this is all new to me. I would like to find out how much money it would caust me to do this. If you want to know i am 16, i mow lawns with my brother in the summer so i don't have a 6 figure income to fasilitate my sport. I might, if i do well I will have $3000 total gun money all year and i will be buying my first rifles. What are your segestions.

Read this week's BLOG. This explains how to get a Remington Action for under $250.00,by buying a gun and then selling off parts).

Nothing wrong with a good 22-250 for coyote hunting though. A 6BR uses less powder and has better brass choices, however.

If you get the Rem Action trued, add a PacNor 8-twist barrel, 26", and a good stock, you should be at about $1000 before scope.

I would say that if you do this right you can get an outstanding rifle/bbl combo that will serve you for years.

You probably can do a lot of the stock finishing work yourself if you're comfortable working with wood. I do suggest having a good stocker put in the pillars.

tylerjw,
Great to hear that you are researching your first buy instead of just jumping into it. What sort of ranges are you talking about when you mention "longer ranges"? The 6mm offerings will certainly carry more terminal ballistic energy out past a certain range, but I would wager that under 300 yards there wouldn't be much of an advantage between the two. The .243 is a great option for the sort of hunting you are doing, and can be loaded for varmints to deer sized game. Factory ammo is readily available, and if you decide to reload there are a LOT of options for weights/types of bullets. You really can't go wrong with either choice though some might say that barrel life isn't the greatest in either,1500-2000 for the 22-250, not sure for the .243 but it can be tough on barrels).
For rifle choices: Savage...pick your model, replace tupperware stock, and go
Glass: Bushnell 3200 or 4200, Burris Fullfield II, Sightron, Leupold with varmint hunters reticle,I have one and highly recommend it)
Burris Signature Zee rings, Ken Farrell base
You are now ready to outshoot the majority of the rigs out there for half the price, leaves a lot more for ammo!)
Hope this helps,
Mike

I'd suggest you pick up a Savage rifle in .223, .22-250, or .243. Spend the rest of your money on gas and ammo. You can always sell the stock barrel for $75 or so and pick up a 6br barrel later if you think it's worth the extra money.
just my $.02

ok when i say "longer ranges" i mean 600 yards+. I am going to be reloading, no two ways around that. If i want to shoot at those ranges and I don't want to pay for match grade factory ammo and I want the most acuracy I can get out of my rifle, I will reload. I also like to shoot prairie dogs, but I don't know of a rifle capable of shooting at "extreem" ranges and still be acurate enough to hit a prairie dog. I thought this might be it when i ran across it. Your site is soo cool. Thanks in advance.

I would prefer the 6mm Ackley over the 22/250 for the ranges your talking about.
As far as brass is concerned you can do as I do and use reworked Lapua 7X57 brass when you can find it.
