Texas LR State Championship

Thanks Ben, I appreciate the encouragement. I am lucky to have the opportunity to shoot with such helpful people as yourself and the whole gang at Bayou Rifles. My shooting and loading has improved immensely since I started, now if I could just achieve the same improvement in reading the conditions, heh :)

You are improving Fredrik, that's what counts. Keep it up!

Just remember this past weekend. We had some phenomenal scores because the wind reading on Saturday, was about like reading "The Dick and Jane Books".. But Sunday, at times, was like reading a geometry book. There are not a lot of "mathematicians" in our sport! LOL!!

Yeah, tell me about it. The conditions for match 5 were the type that separate the wheat from the chaff, unfortunately I ended up decidedly on the chaff end of the equation on that one, haha

I suffered just as poorly Fredrik.. However, Erik and Matt Davis might have some math in their backgrounds! LOL!!!

Johnny, congratulations on your win. Good job; it was a pleasure teaming with you and the guys on Friday.

Erik, very well done; congrats also.

Thanks Denys. I was surprised you did not shoot both days. It was a tight match in F-T/R as well and you would have enjoyed it.

Erik, I was surprised also but that's what happens when you have customers to support and a family to feed (and a gun hobby to fund.)

I had fun shooting on Sunday; tricky wind.

I just wanted to thanks some people that helped put on the match. Ray, Omar, Glen,Linda Mae, Ron, Fredrick, Jim, Mark and Matt without your help we would have had a different match. I know some others helped and I have forgotten to thank you so I wanted to thank everyone that aided us in any way.
The rain was unexpected but the show went on and I think it was a hit. I wanted to invite everyone to shoot at the BRI-Lupua Regional next month 5/15 through 5/17. We are expecting a full house but there are some slots left. This will be a great match with very nice prizes for the winners and a little something at the end for people that hang around to hear the results. I think the firing line showed that it is much better than last year, and we had a great turnout for this years TSRA Long Range, last but not least Ben Brooks was the driving force behind this and all the high-power events at BRI. Without Ben's tireless work we might not have a competition program at BRI so thanks Ben for all you do.

To all the winners and shooters hope you had a good time see you next year or next month, and for some next week.

Thanks Jade, with shooters like you coming to BRI we have to keep the standards up, you are a class act and we love when you come to Texas
and shoot except the part when you beat our Texas shooters that part sucks.

Don

Here is a picture from last week's TSRA. Please note the predicted rainstorm and heavy cloud cover.

Yes, the weather reports were somewhat less than stellar. You certainly know that we had horrific rains that Friday night. Had it not been for the new (crushed stone) firing line, we would have been ankle deep in slop! The guys who did the firing line R-E-A-L-L-Y need to be commended here! Don Diffey the L/R Match Director, spearheaded the operation and Omar Alonzo provided the talent behind his labors! The weather literally had NO EFFECT on the line!

The following is a link to some awesome footage of match, some of it taken from a drone.

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE-y22cQ_iiMZY5jD_pkpvTt4aLryqbw2

The first video starts in front of the 300 yard impact berm and then as the drone lifts off you get a view of the 1000 yard range. I believe this was recorded on the Friday for the Team matches, since the high end and the low end shooting positions were not occupied. You can see the some of the parking area and then the covered firing point at the 1000 yard line. You then see the 900 yard line with wind flags on either side. Next up is the 800 yard line. There is no 700 yard line. The next line is 600 yards, where the road along the left side bends to the left behind the trees. You can see a pair of tables on the 600 yard line (on the left), which we use when we run 600 yard events. The impact berm and the target line is way at the top of the view.
