If you're traveling an hour or more for 300 yards, take an assortment of bull sizes and colors. Splatters are a good idea. Driving an hour to shoot a fine black reticle on a big black bull will not be satisfying. The light matters too. I've switched over to white splatter targets and sometimes put those red circles mentioned above on center.

A 5 or 6" diameter self-healing target works well for accurate hunting rifles/fun shooting. I tape cardboard on the back if I want to know group size. Newer ones have temporary color change of bullet impact, if you have a good spotting scope. Mount them to swing/spin is fun.

Great question! It really does depend on what you're doing, I find that (assuming equal bench techniques) that a NON-COMPETITION target needs to be designed for the distance that you're shooting, the type of sights that you're using and the importance of the fun equation!

I'm attaching a 300-yard 12x scoped rifle target that I use for fun. If you have a decent spotting scope it works and you can print it on a laser or inkjet printer. The square is 4"x4".

The color target is a 13" x 19" designed for scope use.

Draw using a magic marker 1” triangles maybe 2” at 300 the triangle on cardboard the triangle tips give you a “defined” aiming point unlike circles and triangle size gives you a Quick reference to group size

I feel it depends on the gun and scope you're using. You don't want a target you can't see details very well or one that your gun prints to large for.

I use the attached one out to 300 yds.:

I have these for 300 & 400 also but on another computer. Print on card stock.
1/4" grid for the 100 and 1/2" grid for the 200.

You can also cut squares of the appropriate size & tape them on a piece of cardboard:







Or you can grid out lines on paper stock and draw circles using appropriate sized washers.

Depending on scope power, try holding in middle of square. Draw with Magic Marker
