targets for 300 yard distance

Really depends on what kind of shooting you enjoy. If you are shooting for group size then anything you use that allows you to see bullet holes will work. I have found that bullet holes are easier to see @300 (especially the smaller calibers) when shot on white or light colored paper. When testing loads at 300 I use the back of any paper target (white or light) with 3/4" black pasters (a rough circle this size made with a Sharpie will do) as my aiming point. If you happen to begin hitting your aiming point and making it difficult to see it just click up 1-2 "s and your group should form away from your dot.

Shooting for score is more involved. Lots of choices. Benchrest, 300 meter International, F-Class. National Target usually has all of these in stock. I have even used some old 100 yd smallbore targets at 300 yards. But for practicing F-Class I use the NRA MR-63FC target. These are usually sold in packs of 100 so a single order should last you for a while, especially if you repair them with pasters.

For smaller calibers like 223 and 6mm I take a fresh MR-63 FC target to a shop that has a large format copier and I ask them to make 10 copies using the copier's reverse color feature. This makes the scoring area white with black rings and bullet holes are much easier to see @ 300. If only shooting for yourself any scoring target will do, just try reversing the colors. Smaller targets are tougher to score well, test your rifle and load with something challenging. Your friends or club may have some old targets they don't use any more and may hand them over for free. Just try to find something that really challenges you and your rifle system. Enjoy.

I suggest starting with 2" adhesive " splat " targets that have a target printed on them. I got a roll of them from Temu for next to nothing. They have a cross on them with subtensions. Put as many as you want on a cardboard backer and see how it goes. Your hits will be easy to see....I don't know what you are shooting, but these will work with anything for fun at the range.

Rick

Rather than buy or print targets, I buy white poster board from Walmart ($5.62 for a pack of 6 https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pen-Gear...ount/895808824?classType=VARIANT&from=/search) and then just have a roll of 1" or 2" round stickers (orange, red, or pink work best) that I put on them. I can fit 16-20 dots on one piece of poster board, depending on how many rifles I plan on shooting.
For your first foray into it, I would recommend getting 6" or 8" adhesive splatter targets and putting them on the poster board so you can see your shots better and get an understanding of how your rifle is grouping out there before going with a smaller aiming point.

While I have used all of the above I find shooting at colored dots not best for serious testing. A black outlined circle works best for me . I had a local printer make me a self inking stamp. It has a .5 open center with 1/8 black ring around the center. If I can see exactly where my dot is against a white background I shoot smaller easier. Plus it's about 1.5 inches square, I can carry it along and stamp additional aiming points as needed. Good for 50,000 stamps, no charge for a refill if ever needed. Was 20.00.

For practice it doesnt have to be anything sophisticated
I use Binder paper because I like the known line spacing as a quick gauge of group size
I use a Blue Sharpie and make a triangle for a defined aiming point at 3 points
As the distance increases such as at 600 yds, the triangle gets a little bigger...Up to 1 inch
Staple to a box and done
Bonus is - I can then easily store the data and target in a 3 ring binder for later recall

I buy the white poster board from Walmart. Like $5 for a pack of 10. This way I can make my own targets for whatever discipline I need. I like shooting at squares more than circles, and the size just depends on the range and power of scope. A black sharpy and a ruler is all you need. Or you can buy a roll of 3/4" dot stickers, or 2" dot stickers and be done with it. Or an AR500 3/8" steel target would work if you don't like paper.

Keep them all in the 10 ring and you are good to go at 300.
