Target backer

Corrugated plastic as a backer and butcher block paper for the targets. The paper holds up well to rain and wind and the white is bright enough for me to easily see 6mm holes at 600yds with NF Comp scope and NF spotting scope.

At one of the local clubs we started with conveyor belting, not the best...hard to staple, hard to remove old staples, hard to keep flat, doesn't take too many rounds to shoot the center out...source ran dry as most of the cement mills in the area closed. Then we went to scrap plywood until it become too expensive and was replaced with scrap OSB....that disappeared when construction had a huge downturn. Cardboard was never an option because of weathering. Tried coroplast and it works great- as shown in post 7. We bought 18x24x 4mm sheets in bulk from Beacon Graphics.Although at over $1 a sheet, they last longer than any other material...which translates to minimal maintenance on the shooting ranges....that is a huge factor. For quality of bullet holes, nothing that I have seen beats IBS targets as made by Orrville Printing Co. over 1/2" homosote backer.

Pick up those corrugated plastic realtor signs or campaign signs. That's all I use for targets, no splinters, just nice round holes.

I am looking for a target backer that I can staple targets to that will let the bullets tear nice little holes in the paper. It sits outside in the elements year round so it needs to hold up to that. I've used plywood in the past and when a bullet hits it, it splinters and tears a big hole in the paper. I hung some mdf board today thinking it won't splinter. It was worse. Cut nice holes in the board but blew out the paper.

What's everyone using that they're happy with.

Here's the mdf
The paper on those Redfield sight-in targets is the worst.

Yeah, about one step up from tissue paper. I have a big roll of heavy paper. Kinda like magazine cover paper. I use the sight in targets when I'm in a rush.

Find a few "For Sale" signs. They work great. The ones made of corrugated plastic material. After 1,000 plus shots, I have about a 1" hole in the center X ring. I picked up about 20 of them and I am still using the original.

You won't wear them out. The bullet passes through it, and the hole almost closes up, about 1/8. I have using 2 for years and haven't wore them out. Staples fine, but sometimes I just tape the target on them.

The below plastic target, I have 2 and they just won't wear out. I will check and see where I bought them from.
