What are you using for target backers?

I currently use Homasote for my target backers. A 4'x8' sheet cut into 2'x2' squares usually lasts me sometime, though I am down to my last piece and thought I would see if there is anything better that you all may have found.

Specifically, I am interested in a backer that helps the target paper to tear as little as possible.

I know that folks also like foam board insulation and corrugated plastic.

I am not worried about it surviving rain/sun, I take my backers off of the target stands when not in use.

Plastic corigated works for me.

Visit your local convenience store, the soft drink vendors
as well as others remove and replace corrugated plastic
signs on a regular basis. Have them save them for you.
The plastic works GREAT. LDS

I'm impressed. How do you get your members to do those things?
Every time the center of a backer gets shot out at our club, the targets migrate to the edges and corners, then the uprights and cross bars get destroyed.
We have many trash containers at every part of our facility, yet they seem to be invisible to most folks. Either they aren't used, or they are overflowing.
Is electroshock therapy still available?
By setting the 4 x 4 posts in such a manner that they are not covered by the Coroplast, there is no opportunity to place a target in front of them. We thereby give each shooter a 4 foot square in which to staple their targets (appropriate for the SR targets on our rifle range). Our biggest problem is the shotgunners deciding to pattern their guns in that our club is small and cannot afford to pay a range officer to babysit them.

I use old campaign signs since they are corrugated plastic.
Ha the funny part is that the real estate signs have already been ripped off and reprinted with a different company name on the opposite side :p

Thanks for all the ideas. I used the farm supply conveyor belt in front of a steel backer plate for several years before it gave out. Amazing stuff to be that durable. I hung steel gongs for a friend's range. Even with his boys and their spray and pray style of shooting they have lasted more than 10 years.

PINK CONSTRUCTION FOAM
4x4 sheet of 1/2 inch pink construction foam........self healing. My current sheet has been on the target frame for about 9 years and still going strong. Staples hold well but easily pull out without tearing the target.
