Just as the title says, has anyone tried taking moly coating off coated bullets?

Thinking of either dry tumble or stainless pins with dawn.

I tumble them in dawn and lemishine for 15 mins. I don't even use pins but you can. I have measured each bullt and cant see where it hurts on the target either.

I'm in the same boat. Just bought 200 moly coated bullets and decided now I would rather shoot bare bullets. I was going to tumble them in SS pins with dawn but I wondered if the moly would mess your barrel up?
Watching this post with interest.

I just did some with the Bar keep friend stuff...worked ok. Not sure it was worth the effort.

I did a small batch that came with a gun purchase . I used white vinegar and dawn dish soap heated on the stove stirring the bullets till it started boiling . A few boiling water rinses and done . Residual heat dried them most of the way . I don't know how well they were molyed in the beginning but it cleaned them completely from what my eyes and jewelers loupe could tell.

I have cleaned small quantities by dumping them in acetone for a while followed by shuffling them in an old terry-cloth towel. Usually cleans them pretty fast.

Tossed them in tumbler with stainless pin, good squirt of dawn, 1/4 teaspoon of Lemon Shine and hot water. 45 minutes later no more Moly.

Thanks guys for all the tips.

A few years ago I did about 400 Berger 185gr VLDs and 300 Hornaday 168's using a vibratory tumbler and walnut shell media, in batches of 100. I let them run overnight. I read a suggestion somewhere about adding clothes dryer fabric softener sheets to the vibrator's drum, the theory being that the loose moly would adhere to them and keep your media cleaner - it worked. I don't recall if I changed the media during the process or not. The bullets came out dull, but the moly appeared to be mostly gone. They shot fine.

I did notice a heavy coating of moly on the inside of the tumbler, which I could not get off with soap and water, so I replaced it.

I just went out and checked the drum to see if there was any moly residue. Wiped down the inside of drum with a piece of white paper towel, no residue showed up. The water I poured out was pretty nasty, way more so than when I clean range brass.
I did throw them into the brass dryer for about an hour.

Did mine with rice in a vibe tumbler. Nice job. Was sure to dump the rice out. Thought it would attract rodents.
