Tack Driver 6

I doubt there is a lot of difference with the bullets normally used in either. Therefor, I don't think there is a great deal of advantage. The PPC or 6BR are both easier to shoot but the 30 has the advantage of bullet hole visibility.
I don't know how well a 30 BR, set up to shoot 150-168 grain bullets would do. The tough thing here is that recoil is up and technique is more critical. A 108 in 6mm will handle the wing as well as a 155 in a 308 and will be worlds better to shoot.
There are a couple of factors which, for the time being, allow for some experimentation, cartridgewise. First, it is at 300m. This is just far enough to make a better BC desirable, but not so far that a smart shooter can't outsmart the wind, if he's doing well.
Second, the rifle weight requirement is high enough to moderate recoil a bit. This, again, allows for some cartridge choices which would be a waste of time at a lighter weight.
The big factor is the level of accuracy required. To be in the top ten, you have got to be able to shoot an honest 1/4 minute at that range. A lot of shooters like to think they and their rifle can do that, but it's often selective memory at work. I have an "F" class gun with which I have often shot 5 shot groups of around .6 at 300m. I have also sat down at the same bench and put five into a solid three inches when things went wrong (usually a brain malfunction). So, I and that rifle are not 1/4 minute performers. I have shot 750/750 with a pretty high X-count with that rifle for a win at 300 M, but that's with a 1MOA 10 ring. That's not Tack Driver quality shooting.
So it is that I recognize I need (a) more rifles, and (b) more practice. It may well be that as well as practicing my shooting, I need to end each session by practicing my ignominious skulk back to my truck to sneak away. WH

I think with the potential conditions being what they are at Orangeburg, it may be wise to practice your last few groups of the day with the lenz caps on to see how you do with just running them down there with gun handling and tracking....... ;)

Regards
Rick

All the different thoughts and people trying different things to be competitive at this match is humbling. Orangeburg is not an easy range to shoot and the level of talent trying to conquer the field of shooters as well as the range has created some outside the normal thinking. This also keeps your match director on his toes thinking how I can keep it challenging for all and the interest up. The match on Thursday has me trying different things and tactics to keep everyone on their toes and I will surprise them again in 2025! More to come on that in an email to everyone.

If your shots landed in the same place with a 30 compared to a 6, gaining 3 points is pretty significant. Keep in mind, 3 points was the difference from 1st to 8th in score, i'd have loved to had 3 more points. Is a 30 better at this game than a 6, that is the biggest question, I'm not sure you coulda seen 50 cal holes. Personally, im sticking with a 6. I think, emphasize on think, it works better than a 30br in the wind. And for once, wind was my friend, when the wind blew, you could see, thats when i shot

Maybe a new 30BR long, Majesta scope, 20 pound gun and a song & prayer!!!

I have shot multiple matches with both a 6ppc and 30br same day out to 500yds.. The numbers say they are very close. Yes the. 30 is s bigger hole. Regardless, I will take the 6 ppc, best score was always with the ppc.

Nice looking rig Dave.
Thanks
Nice is as nice does.
I'm a little ahead. I did some load development with a rechambered 30 American barrel I had while waiting on the Bartlein barrel. So I at least have a starting point.
The bad news is I had an appointment with an orthopedist in July about my knee. That got moved up Saturday when I attempted to jog for 10 yds. I didn't get 3 steps before feeling two pops and some pain shooting across my knee.
It's always something.

Yea getting old kind of sucks but it's better than the alternative no doubt. Hope it improves quickly.
