Went to Cabela’s outside Detroit today to return an item. After I returned the item I looked at my watch and I had 6 minutes to kill before my phone conference, I decided to walk over to the reloading area for shits and giggles. After seeing nothing but garbage on the shelves I see the familiar shape of a Hodgdon 8lb keg on the bottom shelf. I figured it was something nobody wanted so I walked over to check it out. Next thing you know I’m staring eye to eye with two kegs of H4350. The price was $359 with honestly isn’t too bad ($45 per pound plus tax). As much as I wanted to buy both of them (I shot over 2lbs worth of it this weekend alone), I resisted the urge so that some other reloader could experience the same joy I did. The smile on my face walking through the store to the register was similar to the first time I went to a movie alone with with a girl. Giddy to say the least. Now if only I can stumble across some more RL-15, I swear we go through it in our house faster than toilet paper (loading RL-15 in 4 rifles for the family shooting now).

It's still for sale in SW Ohio..RL15. Cincy

I understand supply and demand, what I personally dont see is the price of any reloading material, or for that matter any food, grocery items, etc. going down. Once the prices on all merchandise has peaked it generally never goes back to the lower prices.

Just my 2 cents FWIW

Haven't been to Cabela's (Brass Pro Shop) in about 3 years but I'm glad you found something you needed.

At my local Cabela's store, they re-configured their checkout lines and made it 100% longer to check out - it's very painful. The last time I was there, I returned the item to the shelf and walked out and haven't been back since.

Their prices, even by today's standards are horrendous. Their reloading supply inventory is the worst in my area. Never could figure the latter out because they should have a lot of clout / purchasing power with suppliers given their size. Even in the "good days" it wasn't good.

They do have a very nice, mounted animal display.

I don't see how paying two times what it should cost for powder is a cause for joy.
Don’t buy it if you think it’s too high. Do you honestly believe that somehow powder prices in the major box stores like Cabela’s are going to go down in the future? You are dreaming if you do. I’m my entire life I’ve NEVER seen powder prices backtrack in the major outlets. This sport isn’t cheap and it shouldn’t be for complainers either. We all get it, prices are higher than we’ve ever seen and that really sucks, but there isn’t shit we can do about it. Either pay it and shoot with the boys and family, or take up competition horseshoes and put shooting in my rear view mirror. I’m not willing to stop shooting, but I do appreciate less competition in finding the powders I use. You keep waiting for the powder prices to come Ebb, it’s probably gonna happen any day now..lol.
Good luck and shoot straight.

Their prices are horrible and it’s literally just a huge clothing store now. lol.

Their taxidermy in the Michigan stores (and likely the Ohio stores as well) is done by Legends in Ludington (they have done several mounts for my buddies and I as well.

Glad you found that H4350 and I would have been ecstatic too. But when Cabela's dropped the line of Herter's decoys, one of the last American made and over the counter decoy manufacturers they left a bad taste in my mouth. I had a Cabela's credit card for years but when it expired I never replaced it. Then when they sold out to BPS I knew that they were done. Once in awhile I will visit one or the other with friends just to look around but to be honest they just don't carry anything that I need. As an avid waterfowler I get most of my gear from commercial fisherman/net shops or online, as they don't carry gear for hardcore coastal duck hunters. If they closed their doors today I wouldn't lose a second of sleep. As a kid, Gander Mountain mail order catalogs were the best. Cheaper than anyone else. But then again I remember when Midway had free shipping all of the time with no minimum purchases. :D

When i started messing with guns back in the 80s an AK rifle was $ 279, and an AR rifle was $799. Now an AR rifle is $450 and an AK is $850. This is a manipulation of the market by greedy people. The more people that pay this kind of money for components the longer the prices will stay up. i tried to buy a house when Jimmy Carter was president, you had to have 20% down and the interest rates were over 12%. You can tell yourself that paying this kind of money for powder and primers is the right thing to do, but you know it isn't.

What is the right thing to do?

The prices aren’t going down, so if they are too high for you, then it’s time for a new sport.

Prices seem to go up now quickly, you sure have to watch. I recently had purchased a couple of benchmade knives from Scheel’s for gifts and a pic rail for myself. I checked those same items last night that I had bookmarked, the knives had gone up $20 a piece and the rail $10.

I am pretty sure you don't get to tell me what sport i will enjoy. I had enough sence to buy this stuff when i could afford it. I sent 2000 primers to my mentor early this year and took 2000 more just a few minutes ago. How is it you can predict the future about prices not going down yet you didn't know enough to buy powder and primers when they were cheap? The truth is you don't know any more about whats going on than any of the rest of us.

I bought IMR 3031 for $39 in north GA a month ago. 9mm ammo a year and a half ago was .45 plus to day on gundeals they had several brands for .28. 223 ammo was .75 to 1.00 a year and a half ago, today on gundeals .45. guns have come down also.

My wife’s sister said she picked up a pumpkin today for sale at a lot in the city, she asked how much and the guy said $100. She put it back down and left.
