Swage press to tighten primer pockets

les--I shoot with some very sucessful 1000 yd and f-class shooters also and they have had many misfires with wolfe primers. The 22 ammo during 2010 winter shooting season I and several other shooters had many misfires with Wolfe match Extra in anschutz 54s and Winchester 52s (4 rifles in very good condition), and they replaced the misfires and very little extra. Their 22 ammo sure shoots though, I also will probably try their primers too but this is what happened, I'm glad you had no problems.

Les--I did look elsewhere-RWS and haven't had a misfire since. I've never had a misfire with Federal, CCI or Winchester primers either. But thanks for the info, all this info coming in is appreciated and I can't wait to read what Jeff has to say about his self-made tool. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned the rimfire stuff, it just throws everything off base. My fault-sorry.

I've been using Tula primers for a while now, very consistent and never had a misfire. (Now watch this, I'll have a bunch this weekend at the match.) I will say these primers are harder so you might want to tell your 1000yd and F-class shooters they need to pull harder on the trigger.

I had a bunch of misfires with Tula SRM primers in 3 of my rifles (2x 6br's and a 6 dasher). No misfires with any other primers. This was with BLC2 powder (I was experimenting). I still want to try the primers with the powders I typically use (Varget, RL15, 8208xbr, 4895, etc...). Haven't had much time to experiment.

There are machine tools to knurl the insides of valve guides in auto engines that reduce the diameter of the hole. I wonder if there is anything similar that is small enough to knurl the primer hole?

mjoplin,

Why not just find a hardened screw of the appropriate diameter and experiment with that? Fine or coarse threads, whichever works (if either do).

You would need something to hold the brass steady. Plug gauges wouldn't hurt, although trial and error would probably work as well.

What Jeff Rogers has shown is the best way----it not only tightens the primer pocket, but, also reduces the case head diameter back to spec, thus eliminating the dreaded bolt click that FL sizing does not get rid of---Dan look @ the pic---that is very similar to what I explained to you on the phone

Hi All . Just turned 8 o clock am , saw you posts and thought i'd show a pic of the drawing so you can make one .. Get back later .. Final id swage size is determined by the parent brass and the amount of expansion , i have 3 sizes .5285 / .5295 / .531 ..JR.. Jeff Rogers
Ps sorry i can't find a away to resize this cad drawing ,maybe i can send it in a email to someone ?

Hi All , Sent the CAD drawing to Dan C by email, maybe he can re-size it and post it up for the rest..JR..Jeff Rogers

Jeff--thanks very much but I have never posted a picture and don't know how, if no-one else will do it, I'll send a picture by parcel post to whomever wants one.

What I meant to say is I'll send athe schematic to someone who will put it on the internet since Jeff says it's alright to do so. Thanks again Jeff.
