Suppressor question

I am in the market for a new suppressor. It will be for a 7mm rem mag. It is a #6 contour 26” stainless Krieger barrel, not threaded on the end yet. It is primarily for the reduced felt recoil and the noise reduction is a bonus, but still a collateral benefit. I am not interested in a break, too loud. Anybody have any recommendations as to which brand has the most benefit in reducing felt recoil? I am in Texas so the legal stuff is ok. I will be shooting mostly at the range and some hunting if that window of opportunity ever comes to light.

go do some reading online at independent and mfg sites. i shoot 9" thunderbeasts on several 30's. my concern is the bbl dia at the muzzle. ya need some meat in the wall not just thread to fit. 5/8's threads on a 30 is too thin, so a 7 might run into the same issue. buy big and buy a name brand. you need thread dia plus a shoulder. ask the known makers not just someone trying to make a sale

One option is to go with a can such as a Dead Air Nomad, that comes with a direct thread adapter.

Buy their muzzle brake, and screw it on the barrel:

Then buy their Xeno adapter that replaces the direct thread adapter that screws onto the brake:

Then screw your can onto the Xeno adapter.

You get the benefit of a brake, and it takes away some of the abuse of the first baffle.

I use a Nomad, but use the Area 419 mounting solution for the Nomad. It allows me to use a Hellfire brake if I want. It is also lighter than the Key Mo mount they had before the Xeno came out.
Easy on and Easy off.

The only change I would make to my setup. I would get the Nomad TI because it is lighter and I use it for hunting more that target shooting.

I have a Nomad Ti in jail right now. I also have the Xeno adapter & brakes for 1/2" & 5/8" applications in hand, so I have my bases well covered.

More than likely I'll direct thread it for the lighter weight, although the brake only weighs 2.5 ozs, and the adapter 2.0 ozs. If we assume the direct thread adapter weighs about the same 2.0 ozs, the brake only adds the 2.5 on top of the Ti's 9.6 ozs. Not a huge deal breaker.

I have a 300 Harvester, 1/2 and 5/8 adapters, it's good up to 300 wm. Has a brake on the end. It is a good hunting suppressor, works well even on my 30TC Icon with a sporter contour barrel. When I put it on my 18" AR(223) sounds like a 10/22.

The muzzle end of the barrel is .750" Outside Diameter. That should leave about .230" wall thickness before the threads are single pointed on it. What kind of felt recoil should I expect? I have seen some videos and read some peoples comments on a couple suppressors that make the 7 Mag feel like a 243 Winchester. Is this true or just inflated egos? LOL, Thats actually what sold me on the whole suppressor idea. I was actually considering just selling the rifle and buying a non-magnum deer rifle.

It’s hard to believe it would reduce recoil by that much but I did read somewhere that says the banish 30 gives about a 20 percent reduction in felt recoil and that I would believe after shooting with and without it attached. It makes my roughly 8.5 pound 308 savage rifle feel more like shooting a 243 maybe even a little less than a 243. I load my 308 fairly hot too with 168 gr Sierra if that helps.

My Harvester reduces felt recoil a bunch, my Sig 223 full auto suppressor has no brake still a reduction in recoil and of course noise suppression(especially) during rapid fire. With the Harvester on my 30TC, recoil feels more than my 22-250 but not much. Not much movement when I run it on my 22-250. Only down side to either one, they can't be disassembled for cleaning(then I could run them on rimfire firearms). Next one will be rimfire useable.

The suppressor will add weight to your rifle. In my head, that's where the recoil reduction comes in, although a brake added to the end of the suppressor should help. The Silencerco Harvester weighs 11 oz. The Silencerco Omega also adds a little over 14 oz. I have a Silencerco Hybrid 46 that weighs 14 oz in the direct thread configuration and if I wanted I could add the muzzle brake end cap that the Omega and Harvester use.

Other suppressors may weigh more or less. However, I will not buy another Silencerco because their customer service, when I had two problems with my Hybrid, was not very good. And their quick attach system is prone to failure.

Suppressors come long or short, heavy or light, direct thread or quick attach - only you can decide what factors are important to you. When I put my Hybrid 46 on my Tikka CTR in 6.5 Creedmoor I can watch my bullet impact steel at 500 yds. through the scope. It's pretty awesome to see the impact and afterward hear the sound.

So, as I said, in my head, the added weight will reduce recoil.

The reduction in recoil for a suppressor is not just due to the added weight. As gases exit the barrel, they act on the baffles, essentially "pushing" them forward. The reduction in recoil is not as much as if you use a good brake, mainly because the gases are moving slower by the time they hit the suppressor baffles than they are hitting the baffles of a brake (closer to the bore of the barrel).
Adding a brake attachment to the suppressor will help some, but still not as effective as an open brake due to the gases not having free atmosphere to disperse to, rather they are contained within the suppressor (that is how you get the noise reduction).
That being said, any of the good 30 cal suppressors will tame that 7mag quite nicely. Again, not as effective as a brake, but it does reduce the recoil impulse as well as change the impulse to be more of a push rather than a punch. I would also suspect that some of the issue you may be having with it is related to noise as well, which the suppressor will definitely fix.

On a bolt rifle, lighter cans tend to work out better, sometimes you tend to have less point of impact change and it adds less weight at the end of the muzzle. ThunderBeast and Dead Air both make a couple of Titanium cans that are top notch. The Nomad TI? and the ThunderBeast Ultra 9. A 30 caliber can would be fine on a 7mm.

The Silencerco Harverster, Griffin Sportsman, YHM resonator would also probably be good options that are a little less expensive. I'm sure there are a few more good ones out there.

Like said above, a suppressor will not be as effective at reducing recoil, but there is a noticeable difference.

Another vote for Thunderbeast. They offer direct thread as well as a more standard adapter attachment. The 9" suppressor is light and noticeably decreases recoil. I shoot with a group of guys on private land and once one of us got one, we all ended up with them and now joke that it is the only civilized way to shoot.

I've put mine on an AR-10 and it does significantly increase blow back in the chamber. I recently tried an OSS HX-QD on my gas gun and it made a big difference in bolt cycling and blow back while still reducing sound and recoil. Just something to think about if you might be using a suppressor on a gas gun.

Thank you all for your input. I got the rifle as a Christmas present from mom and dad in 1987. It is a custom built rifle built on a Sako AV action. It has a Gorgeous wood stock by Nate Bishop. The gun not always was such a beast for me to shoot. In 1987, I was a 285 pound 7th grader who pretty much lived behind a loaded rifle scope and a broadhead pointed at a furry edible creature. I lost a lot of weight about three years ago and since I do not have all the flubber, the rifle has become literally unbearable to shoot. I had two mercury recoil reducers installed in the stock, and a heavy contour Krieger stainless barrel put on with hopes of me being able to shoot it again. My thinking was that if the rifle was heavy enough, it would help. The gunsmith asked if I wanted to thread the barrel for a suppressor or a break. He actually did mention there was way more than enough material to put the threads on it for a screw on suppressor or break. I should have given more thought of the idea of using the suppressor then, but I was unaware of the Texas laws and how suppressors have become a thing when reducing felt recoil and obviously the reduction in ear blast. My knowledge has grown significantly in the areas of suppressors and I am excited to get the paperwork started to get one legally. It should take about a year from first ink to silencer in hand if what I am being told is correct. Thank you all for the information. As many models that have been mentioned on here, I think I will have no problems with finally taming this beast.
