Suppressor Issues

Hi guys,

I have a brand new 22-250 Ackley I had put together for used with a suppressor.

The barrel is 20” long and I’m running 75s out of it.

With the can off it shoots very well.

With the suppressor screwed on it goes everywhere. For example I had one shot of 5 on paper at 100 yards with it on and dime sized groups with it off.

No baffle strikes.

My other rifle will still shoot with it on.

Roughly 400-500 rounds through the can.

Any thoughts??

I’m stumped.

Never seen a can make groups worse. Some better or equal. Call Mack Brothers, they make that suppressor for Dakota Silencer Great people.

Any chance you have another can (maybe a .30 cal) you could throw on to see what it does? You may not have full baffle strikes but it does sound like something is going on because I wouldn’t expect it to be that much worse.

After closer inspection it appears there are some nicks in roughly 3 or 4 of the baffles.

I can’t tell if these are nicks or supposed to be there. May need to look with a borescope.

What would cause a “sort of baffle strike”

Bullet yaw??

Inadequate threads or shoulder on the barrel?

They measure the same as another rifle done by the same smith

Barrel measures .720 at the muzzle.

Can stays tight against the shoulder.

Could be the threads but I don’t think so??

I’m very stumped by this.

I just shot it again and all 5 shots were on the paper but this time 5” low and left. Shot about a 5” group.

Serious? Is this actually doable

Jip easy or just do it with a hand drill, as 22Dasher said problem is your threads isn't concentric with the bore of the rifle so the can screws on correctly and straight but the bore "points" of in a different direction. We use allot of suppresors over here and we see the problem now and then, if its just nicking a baffle a hand drill will sort it out quickly, just open it up a little

Question to OP, Have you pulled the bolt and looked down the barrel with the can screwed on? If so were you seeing any baffles as you looked squarely down the bore? You should not see any.

Yep I did this.

It’s hard to know when you’re perfectly straight but it doesn’t appear there are any baffles protruding into the line of the bore.

I believe you can take the suppressor apart. Check that it was assembled correctly, baffles are indexed. Inspect the baffles, new nicks from impact will be obvious. Clean and reassemble per the directions. I always align the baffle index in the same spot on the outside barrel such as the writing. Good luck.

First, I have to ask, is your suppressor rated for the 22-250AI?
I know it sounds like a dumb question but unless many suppressors of 22 caliber type are only built with semi-auto 223 rate of fire and pressures. They may handle the higher pressures of the 22-250 for a bit but not recommended.
Next, if you even think you are seeing a baffle strike then you should have it checked out. As referenced above, Mack Bros. is the manufacturer and they should be more than happy to speak with you about the issue.
Still, as also stated above, I think your issue is with muzzle threads not concentric or the shoulder that the suppressor screws up against is not square.
