Suppressor group change advice.

With my 270 hunting rifle I can Moa with Hornady super performance consistently. When I add my Omega suppressor my group is wild over the paper. Using the suppressor, would I have to find the ammo that will group well with the barrel and suppressor and rezero. Trial and error. Just start over?

Doesn't sound like an ammo issue, pics would be good.

Presume you checked the can is tight and also that you're not getting any baffle strikes. If not that would be a good start. Usually with a good combo POI will change with/without can but not really group. At least that's my experience across several rifles.

It looks like I’am going to decide whether I shoot suppressed or not suppressed unless I find the ammo that will reasonably work with both.

Yes, you will need to find a load that groups well with your suppressor. I assume you don’t reload, correct?

+1 to everyone's responses already and then the weight of the suppressor will act as a tuner that's unturned in this case; if everything else checks out, you may need to adjust your load +/- a little. You may end up with best loads for unsuppressed and suppressed; but for MOA you're likely to find an ok load for both.

Watch your barrel temps too, suppressor will keep your barrel warmer.

Check for to make sure the suppressor snugs down tight and nothing is loose. Are all parts of the suppressor tight also. Who cut the threads and shoulder on your barrel for the suppressor?

Like said above, mine will change POI slightly, but accuracy improves. Only time I've had a problem was when the suppressor worked loose while doing extended shooting.

Which Omega and caliber. Is the can set up for a 308 Win or can it handle 300 Win mag ? I know toy said it is on a 270. Has it been on a 22 LR either.

Mine will change POI , but usually improve the group.
Mine all, definitely, change POI. Pretty much anything you add to the barrel will change POI, but, like Klong I pretty much always shoot better suppressed then I do un suppressed and I can't think of any of my rifles that don't shoot the same load regardless of if the can is on or off. Not saying it can't happen or it's not the problem but if it goes from shooting MOA to scattering them wildly all over the place something sounds more wrong than just the ammo.

The Omega is a direct thread, are you using an adapter of some sort? Was the barrel threaded factory? I have had groups get worse only once after installing a suppressor, I had an adapter 1/2x28 to 5/8x 24 on the barrel. Once I changed ends on the suppressor to thread directly, groups returned to load development size.

I have to disagree with that. On average, a can will shoot a bit better than a naked barrel but that's far from guaranteed.

If you whacked 4" off a barrel, would you -guarantee- the original good load will still shoot well? No different to adding a suppressor, you will have changed the harmonics drastically.

I have been shooting suppressed rifles for 18+ years on allot of different rifles, I have never had a good load shoot bad after screwing on a suppressor, POI changes yes but a half moa rifle isn't shooting a moa group now just because of my silencer. Even using different weigh/size silencers on the same rifle it doesn't affect the accuracy. In theory I understand why it should but in reality it doesn't

I’am going to try it all again. Suppressed and not suppressed. Same factory ammo. The heck of it is the barrel heats up with a few shots and there you go worried about the barrel. You out there for hours to gather your information. A few shots and the suppressor is a blow torch.

I've been using suppressors for over 30years on various rifle configurations and calibers.ive supplied and fitted quite alot. also manufactured a few.ive only seen improvements when fitted correctly.if everything is sound with the rifle and components.taming recoil and muzzle flip is normally a bonus when accuracy is sort after.ive seen mediocre rifles shoot really good with a suppressor fitted.everyone should try one at least once.i wouldn't be without one.
