Summer Groundhogs

Love those old BDL varmint specials. Nice rebarrel to Tac. And that hog with the 6BR in the photo is not a groundhog, that is the result of being downstream from Three Mile Island! Hogzilla!!! Nice photos Hillbilly! Looks like your little bro is getting a good start.

Moderator! Isn't there a rule about posting pictures like this after the season? My pulse is elvated, I'm grinding my teeth and can't concentrate!

Nice pics and shooting Hillbilly! Building an 8tw .22 Dasher this winter. If it'll have it I'm gonna sling 80 grain A-Max out of it.

I will be barreling another 22 Dasher very soon with a faster twist barrel. The 80s will work fine out of the Dasher case. I have several old BDL varmints that's been rebarreled. The 6BR started life has a 22-250 and I shot it for awhile in the factory stock until I put the McMillan on it. Right now my Varmint rifles are

20 Vartarg on CZ 527 Xcaliber #5
20 TAC Rem 700 Rock Creek HV
22-250 BDL factory sporter
22-250 788
22 Fox Squirrel CZ 527
6BR Rem 700 Brux 12 twist Rem V
6BR Stolle Atlas Bartlein 8T HV

I am interested in knowing more about your Vartarg, Fox Squirrel, and that 788. I have shot several 788 and they tick me off every time. I hate it when a $105 gun shoots with my 40X...

I may get a vartarg barrel for a contender. Or maybe a rebarrel on a benchrest gun for groundhogging. And exactly what is a Fox Squirrel????
(I know what a fox squirrel with four feet and tail is...just never heard of that cartridge.)

where are you in WVA? I hailed from western PA in my youth

My current 20 Vartarg is a trued CZ 527 American action with a #5 contour Xcaliber 11 twist 3 groove. Shoots the 35 bergers like a benchrest rifle if you can drive it. The 788 I have has been in my family for 20 some years. It was my older brothers rifle. I have modified the trigger to make it adjustable. It's a 1/2 Moa gun all day long. My 22 Fox Squirrel is built on a CZ 527 Hornet action. The 22 Fox Squirrel is a shortened and improved 22 Hornet case that is 1.10 long and holds 9.4 gr of Ramshot Enforcer with 40 Sierra Blitzkings at 2750 FPS. 175 yd squirrel headshots are easily done in good conditions. My friend Howard Farris came up with the 22 Fox Squirrel about 2007. He was a small caliber fan and loved to hunt Fox Squirrels. It's a fun little round. I've taken Squirrels, turkeys, and Groundhogs with it. Oh yeah I'm in South Western Virginia town called Saltville. I'm about 35 mins from Bristol TN. Thanks

I know what's on his mind!
