Suggestions

Planning a new build for a new 6mm???? cal to compete in 600/1000 Benchrest. Already have a 6BR and would like something with a little more horsepower. Feel free to comment with all your comments/suggestions.

Thanks
George

I do handload and have the exprience to do case forming. I would prefer not to get too involved with it. Actually considering the 6x47L but some seem to have problems getting it too shoot the same all the time.

6mm Super LR is very easy to prep brass, just run 243 through a bushing die and you're done. It has a little more snort then the 6x47L too.
6CM is in the same boat, but you have to fire form brass.
6mm Crusader, brass is made already, but it's hard on barrels.

more commercial is the 6mm Rem.
6x47L
243 win

I chose the SLR because it was easy and consistent, similar to the 6br in the fact that you can feed it just about anything.

the 6 brx is setting records. you can use your 6 br dies and in a no turn neck chamber case forming is easy. load development is quick and easy. accuracy is comperable to the br and dasher. mine will shoot in the zero's on many occasions. the 243 win is waning, the 243 ackley works but burns barrels as does the 6-284. i have all of these and love them all, just not equally.

The 6-SLR is surprising a lot of folks with the way it's shooting..
H4831SC and a 108 Berger will make a believer out of anyone...

I would go with a Dasher, as good or better than a BR. and will handle the 115's, brass life is 30+ firings, low recoil, barrel life is very good. It will shoot very small at 1K and you can shoot free recoil if you want.......jim

Several suggestions for a Dasher and the 6mm SLR. I know about the Dasher but nothing about the SLR. Tell me more. If based on the 243 case how is it different? Not a fan of the 243.

Carolina Man:

You have many options. You have not said what your other goals are other than 600-1000 yards. Accuracy, ecconomy, velocity/flat shooting etc. The 6mm, 7mm, and 30 caliber are the best options for 600-1000 yards. Accuracy and ecconomy can be acheived with both the 6mmBRX and the 6mmDasher. Both have the option to start with good Lapua brass, and small primers. You can get the best bang for your buck. Both are inheritedly accurate with little recoil. Both have double the barrel and brass life of a .243Win or 6mm Remington. Keeping your velocity 3020-3080 fps with less than 33.grains of powder will be both ecconomical in the front end (purchase cost) and the back end equipment life. The 6/47, 6/250, 6XC, 6Creedmore, all are great cartridges and may out perform the BRX and Dasher in extreem cold weather. The .243 Win., 6mm Rem., are great hunting rounds but are brutal on barrels. The 6/284 and 6/06 are like formula cars, faster than Heck, and fickel.
I have personally followed the route of the 6mmBRX and never regreted it. You stated you already have a 6mmBR. You can make a .098 washer and use the same dies for both cartridges. I suggest having a body die made or use a .243-.308 sizing die with the expander removed as a body die.

I would recomend Lapua brass, fire formed in the chamber used with 30.-30.5 grains of Varget. The 105 Berger or Sierra 107 jammed .035 will give you .4 moa or better during fire forming, good enough for 600yard matches and practice. Then work on a load from 32.0-33.0 grains of Varget. I use a 1:8, 5R barrel but the 1:8 4 groove works great. .236-.237 /.243 bores. I shoot a 32.1/4" barrel allowing for a set back if desired. I know others shoot 29-.30." barrels. Read the John708/6mmBRX post on this forum and you will learn alot about the 6mmBRX.
Good Luck

I did have a SLR.and the Dashers at one time now only the Dashers, for 600 and 1000 yd. bench rest the Dasher you can't beat them, there are no points for speed. The SLR was made for a different game and it's very good there.......jim
