stuck brass in chamber

I have a Savage 6mmbr that had a head seperation at the Nationals last weekend on my last round first relay. I and most everyone there tried to get it out.
I put kroll in chamber when I got home yesterday and let it sit overnight, Tried to use the cleaning rod with a brush on the end to pull it out. No good so far and even tried putting in freezer with no luck.
Do you know where I can get a 6mmbr broken shell extractor for the Savage? I have been looking on the internet and only see for 223 - 308 - 7.62x39

Thanks.
Pisses me off because I only dropped one point the first relay and then had to switch rifles and it was down hill from there

I have used a 45 pistol brush - just 'pulling' it into the stuck case and then smacking the rod with a piece of wood. Run an empty rod down from the muzzle end, and screw on the brush. Use a rod you do not like, preferably a coated one. Brush will be scrap when you are done. You might want to try that alone, or with simultaneously heating the barrel.

Brownells lists a .243,6MM) shell extractor. I need to get one for myself. ;) #769-100-243. Got them in .06 and 7.62 that I keep in my range bag. Wouldn't go to the range without them. Been used 'more than once' Sure saves the day.:D

Case head seperation remedy....

I too had two case head seperations at the F-Class Nationals last week. Had to shoot my spare gun.

One can take a tap that is slightly larger than the ID of the case stuck in the chamber. Engage the tap about 4-5 threads and then remove the tap and the case should come with it.

If you want to make a permanent case remover one can weld the tap to a piece of round stock or make an adapter with a set screw.

Just tried to order a few from Brownells. Got a reply and they're 'not available'. Looks like we need to look somewhere else.

Thanks to all I finally got it out by using the tap. Thanks Nat it worked very well. First time I ever had that happen. I thought it was just at the end by the rim, but once I got it out I see it ripped about 1/4 of the way up from the Rim. Now to order the extractor spring and ball since I lost that in the grass at Butner.

and or overworked brass. Been full length resized too many times and pushing the shoulder back more than needed.
Fire, measure, bump shoulder back about .001 or .002, reload and go shoot something.

Everything NorCalMikie said and before starting to load the brass, check carefully for the bright ring that usually will start to appear just above the base. If you see it, check it with a sharp pointed piece of bent wire. If you can feel the tip of the wire 'fall into' a groove, do not reload that case.;)

I've never had a case head seperation on my 6 BR. And some of it has been reloaded at least 10 times if not more.
The less you move that brass, the longer it will last.
Now my M1A? That's a different story! ;)

NorCalMikie: My experience also. Never even seen the bright 'starting' ring on 6ppc, 22BR, and 6BR, all Lapua of course, and many of them are in the high 20's for number of times reloaded. Even my Winchester 223 brass used in my AR's will get the small split in the neck, after 13 or 14 reloads, and are thrown away before the ring ever appears. Have had impending seperation, with the beginning of the bright ring, verified with the sharp point, on a few Winchester 22-250 after 6 and 7 reloads, so they went into the scrap can immediately. My 'solution' to the problem is control headspace length, and inspect the cases before each reloading. Some rounds, like the 220 Swift have a reputation for seperation, and maybe the 22-250 also?), so special attention/inspection may be justified for those.

Cerrosafe will do it !

Plug the barrel from the front with a patch pushed
in up to the neck of the case.

Melt and pour in a small amount of Cerrosafe, allow it to solidify and then push everything out.

Steve

I've been looking for a "dedicated" broken shell extractor for a 6mmBR case but havn't been able to find one. No one seems to make anyhting in a 6mm.
While digging through the Midway USA catalog # 32, page 118, I found a listing for Baker Jigs & Fixtures.
If you ever needed a case extractor for just about any caliber you could want, this would be the way to go! I sent a note to Mr. Larry Potterfield @ Midway and after a few days I got a reply.
Seems like the Baker Jigs & Fixtures was a "in house" deal that never got off the ground. :(
I'll keep looking.

It looks like it was just a piece of brass that got sized to much. I checked head space and all is still the same. So far I have not had the same problem.

"Cerrosafe will do it !"

So will a epoxy-bedding material plug -it just takes overnight to cure.

Clean inside brass -plug neck with a patch and pour into chamber.

Lot's of .303's up here.
