Stockade Money Saver Stock

Has anyone had any experience with finishing a Stockade Money Saver Stock? If so, what advice or methods worked for you, whether it be bondo, filler, sanding, etc. And what did you finish it with, duracoat, hydrodip, etc? Thank you!

I ordered a longrange benchrest money saver 4 months ago, I figure I have about a month left of staring at a stockless barreled action.

I have one that someone else did and he told me it didnt take much at all to fill little voids and sand lightly and paint.

I bought one that way. You will have to fill voids for sure, but it's not that bad. Devcon steel puddy works great for filling because of its thicker texture and sandability once dried. Just make sure you tap firmly on the stock everywhere possible with a small rawhide mallet or the plastic handle of a screwdriver before filling obvious voids or finishing the stock. Many of the voids in the fiberglass shell are beneath the outer finish and won't be revealed until you break the thin surface covering them. They are just hidden air bubbles. I found most of the hidden voids along the top sidewalls surrounding the action and barrel channel, so be sure to tap on those areas very thoroughly.

And beware that their butt pad fitting is pretty ugly. Lots of grinder marks all over the rubber. So expect to have to smooth out the buttpad before finishing.

BigDMT, thank you very much for the insight. I wouldnt have thought about the subsurface air bubbles. I'll prolly use Devcon instead of bondo. How did you end up finishing it, paint or coating wise?

jsthntn247, I ordered mine Jan.27th. I spoke to them yesterday and was told they are still working on December orders, so I hope for both of our sakes they get to the January orders soon.

For finish I used automotive paint, then applied hard clear coat. But that's because it was a 1K BR stock.

If getting more of a hunting or tactical style stock, I'd recommend using NAPA brand spray on truck bed liner. Very tough, good gripping surface, and touch up is a breeze. Has to be NAPA brand, other brands are too rubberized and will peel off.

Bondo is very hard to work with when cured. Solid but hard.

I duracoated one. 8 yrs and still looking good.
