Still Searching for a Good 600yd Groundhog Gun

20 Vartarg is a very good 400yd Groundhog rifle. I love the small powder charges with the big performance this cartridge is just Awesome. It runs not far behind the 204 and 20 Tacs and it shoots almost as flat as my favorite 22-250 loads. Less blast and bang sure makes it nice. My two rifles weigh 14lbs the recoil is nothing I see all my shots. 20 Vartarg is my all time favorite.

How bout a 6 Creedmoor like this one? 26" Bart, 8 twist, will and has shot under 4" out to 600yds on a couple of occasions. It likes VLDs and Hybrids, it shoots Hornady 105s pretty well, too, but not throated for those bullets.

Here's some Hybrids I loaded up for it, it has shot a .5" group out to 300yds earlier this year. Just over 3100 with Hybrid 100V powder.

VLDs want kill Groundhogs at long range like a V-Max. I have tried several calibers with VLDs or Match kings with poor results. Out to 400 yards my 20 Vartarg with V-Max or Sierra Blitzkings perform very well on Groundhogs. My 6BR with 87 V-Max should be good at 600yds.

I built a custom in 6x47 lapua for the same reasons you are thinking about a new rifle. I shoot a 70 gr sierra blitzking at 3550 fps and it shoots bug holes at 200 yds. it is heavy enough the wind doesn't bother it as bad as my 22-250 for long work I love this rifle and cartridge!

Google Richard Franklin or go to Accurate Shooter.com and go back in the featured guns section and look at his favorite G-hog gun. It's a 6MMAI shooting V-Max's. Hard to argue with his reasons. Gonna have one built after my 6MM BR is done. Can't have too many varmint guns:)
